Will Sky install on a Chimney? The place is a standard two floor terrace.

Also I have an existing hole for cabling (ex Virgin Media) would it be possible for Sky to feed there cables through that hole and take the Virgin media cabling out - it would be better to avoid another hole in the wall if possible.

Sky will install on a chimney, and you will need to ask for the 'Special Heights Team' when ordering your install and normal installers cant work at that height. I don't think they charge extra for this but you may want to check.

No reason why they cant use the same hole but i'm not sure how Virgin install. It may not be as simple as just taking the cable out as I presume it terminates somewhere in the street and the Sky installer may not be able to deal with that.

they do charge extra....because they send a 2 man team (health and safety regulations)

Ok what about if I tell them that I want it as high as possible and on a certain wall? Will they do that? Basically I want it at the side of the place as high as possible if a chimney install is not possible. They will put the dish wherever I ask them wont they (within reason)?

As for the virgin cable it is no longer connected to the street. It is just the box on the wall next to hole where the cables come through so all they would have to do would be remove the cables from the hole and put there cables in.

What about if you contribute to the installers beer kitty? That's really the solution to most of your questions.

Also bear in mind that it has to be in a place with a clear/clearest view to the horizon at the right azimuth/elevation.

    Indeed.
As one Sky installer told me, "sorry there is no way you can get reception here. Just not possible."

Dish installed a week later by an independent installer and has been fine ever since.

No surprise, most Sky employed installers are poorly trained.

Indeed..i know of someone who had a recent sky install. They fixed it half way up the house. It must have kinda worked or worked on most channels. Anyway a week later they came back, removed it and attached it to the existing terrestrial antenna pole which is fastened to the wall with small TK brackets. Trouble is,the pole isnt large diameter so now,in the wind, the pole wobles,no doubt leading to loss of sig again!

No doubt they will be back.

I received a letter from an independent installer telling me they would be doing the job as a Sky 'Business partner'. Hopefully they are a little more flexible as the restrictions on where I have been permitted to put this thing are tight.
