Wouldn't bother me at all. One of my sisters wore black to our cousins wedding years ago and no one said anything, well not to her face anyway. The only problem (for me) was that it emphasised how skinny she is - not in a bad way, but in a photo of the two of us together I look enormous and I was in size 10/12 clothes that day!
Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

I'm a guest and the starting point for my outfit was a pair of red shoes. Was hoping for a nice electric blue dress but nothing has grabbed me in the shops - but i have been wowed by a black dress. Got a wide patent red belt and will have a red pashmina for the church - so I'm going with your idea - black but with a colour so it doesn't look too black...

I wore a black dress to my firends wedding last year.

It was just a simple black strapless dress from oasis, which i wore with bright blue/green shoes, matching necklace and bracelet and a similar colour belt. Will try and find a pic...not sure where the XD card is though.

I dont think wearing black to a wedding is such a big deal now, as lots of weddings are themed black and white.
  • Hi

I agree with the rest of the posters. It didn't bother me at all when a couple of guests wore all black.

One of them did ask me first and I said of course I didn't mind. If you are concerned run it past the bride first I'm sure it won't be a problem.

Plus the monochrome look is really in right now!!

Sorry to go against the trend, but I wasn't happy that one of my husband's family wore black to our wedding. It's seen as being unlucky, as is associated with funerals. I know most people are saying go for it, and I do think wearing bright accessories would help, but if you know that the bride or groom is superstitious then maybe try and find something else to wear if you can.

i say go for it too, it wouldn't bother me if someone turned up to my wedding in a black dress. Most men wear black suits to weddings anyway why should it be different for the women.
And as for this superstition malarky, what a load of cobblers. Go for it.
