In the same vein as the many Sky threads where you can get a 25% discount by threatening to leave, I thought I would just remind folks to check the cost of their ISP as many have fallen in price over the last few months.
I am with Pipex and have had no problems whatsoever with them, however I realised i have been paying £23.99 for an unlimited 1 meg service for the past 2 years. I checked their website for the current offers and found that it is now a lot cheaper for new customers but they quoted £58 if an existing customer wanted to lower their payments.
A quick phone call later, in which I was prepared to threaten to leave them, had secured a new deal of unlimited 2 meg service at a cost of £17.99 and no mention of the £58 charge.
Thats a £6 monthly saving and a faster connection for the sake of a phone call.
Which combined with the £11 monthly saving I achieved in the same afternoon by threatening to leave Sky made it a very good money saving afternoon!

I'm with pipex too and managed to get a £14.99 for the connection, by calling for the MAC code and saying that we were going to go to another provider as it cost less for the same service.
I only think it worked because we genuinely were going to move if they didn't reduce the cost.0 -
Doesn't work with Talktalk. I called to cancel BB because I didn't want their phone service and their re-action was OK goodbye!
My phone bill was only around £1/month so they were happy to loose £15/mth.0 -
I have just got off the phone with Telewest and threatened to go back to BT so I could use another ISP. Did not want the hassle but need to save the money.
They offered me 3 months at £9.99 and then £14.99 a month after that for a 1mb service.
So worth a call and I am hopeless at haggling or anything else. So it did work.
You will talk to someone who will then put you through to the people I spoke to. Make sure you tell them you are going back to BT.
Saved a few pennies and saved me hassle.
