    I did not say it was "as good" as a new one.

    Take a simple example a 1.25 5dr Zetec Fiesta new today list price is £11145 knock £2000 for he scheme plus £645 because I guess you could haggle. So you might get it for £8500.

    Or buy the old one for £4675 I know which I would prefer especily as the OP is talking about being fed up with dept!

    <It is better value.>

    That used to be my philosophy, but the Vauxhall I am buying new comes with a three year warranty, and so as it will have almost nil miles on the clock, wear and tear will cost less and I am not so sure if a 3 yo vehicle is certain to be better value.

    There might also be some "value" on having a thing from new oneself, which is difficult to cost.

    Maybe value is not just about financial cost?

    And in your "value" calculation don't forget deprecation.

    Having looked around the internet and listened to the comments here, I'm starting to hope the car passes it's MOT...

    Even with the £2k scrappage discount, I'm probably looking at least £8-10k for a new car. The cheaper cars are too small. I don't want to spend that sort of money just now.

    If I go for a used or pre-reg car, then the rush to sort things by the 28th is gone. I can wait until my next invoices are paid, so I don't have to borrow as much. I'll have more time to research what I want too.

    Best scenario is that the car passes it's MOT or doesn't cost much to fix. I can then look at a new car in 2010. The scrappage scheme might even have some good deals then!

    Thanks everyone

    If you're going to be so bigoted as to misrepresent my post then fairynuff.

    I am presuming you are refering to me as "bigoted" as I stood up to your post which was not obviously written as comments to the OP.I am not sure how you think your written words have been misinterpreted! If you quote some one and then do not differenciate when you have finished talking about it then it is more than reasonable to assume the post is carrying on in the same vein. Your response has spoken volumes as to your character. :rolleyes:
    Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!
    :jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!

    What about re sale value in say 3 years time, the old one may be worth £1500, the "New" one will fetch £4675, plus youve had 3 years without needing a Mot, plus a lot less on maintnence.........ive had my car from new for 7 years, i know what id choose......and its still on the original Tyres. if your happy with "Old Bangers" fair enough.
