Lloyds TSB and Bank of Scotland Brand

Hi folks,
Just wondering what other MSE members think of the Lloyds TSB Scotland brand being lost/taken away from Scotland's towns/cities.
Aparently the Bank of Scotland brand is stronger than Lloyds TSB Scotland, and as a result Lloyds TSB who own HBOS have decided that Bank of Scotland should be the main brand in Scotland and Lloyds TSB and Halifax will remain in England.
So what does this mean for the current Lloyds TSB Scotland customers, will we be issued with new debit cards with Bank of Scotland on them?
Also, what about the staff it must be a nightmare for them not knowing if there jobs etc are safe?
I also visit in England every few months does this mean that if i hold a Bank of Scotland card after its changed from Lloyds TSB Scotland i can go into a Lloyds TSB branch in England and do my banking?
Any other comments?

(Although I've no idea why anybody in the day of internet banking, telephones and ATMs would want to use a branch to do their banking!).0 -
Your reply is not very constructive!0

Vote with your feet if it is not to your satisfaction,my Bradford and Bingley has been taken over by Abbey. Its being rebranded Satander in 2011 and no doubt my local branch will be closed being smaller than the local Abbey(Santander from 2010) with no doubt job losses.
Anyway savings have been moved to the Scottish BS and cashcard account is being moved to the Yorkshire BS.
If you want an all British organisation,I would think Nationwide would be your best bet.I have a deep burning indifference0 -
I don't know how strong LTSB Scotland is but they did say after the merger that eventually in Scotland BOS would be the main brand - I expect longer term the Halifax brand will disappear
I expect you will get a new debit card
The merger will cause some job losses in all of the UK
Assuming the systems are compatible - yes0 -

Good reply... Its true a lot of our banks are being taken over by Santander.
Nationwide do seem to be in a strong position after taking over the Dunfermline BS.0 -

I thought the LTSB Scotland brand was very strong, but obviously not as strong as Bank of Scotland since they want to change the name.
I guess its because Bank of Scotland is a very well known brand, i think its one of oldest banks in the UK.. Maybe older than Lloyds??0 -

In what way could a reply have been constructive when there are no facts to base it on?
The only certainty is that things will change. What the change looks like is, at present, uncertain. Ultimately, life goes on.0 -

Not surprising - Bank of Scotland dates back to the 1600s, where as Lloyds TSB is an amalgam of two businesses from 1765 (Lloyds) and 1809 (TSB). I may be slightly off on those dates.
It's no surprise that they'd keep BoS too, considering the history - not only is it a long and varied history, but it was started by the Parliament of Scotland. There'd be an outcry from that... Alex Trout or whoever it is. Those Scottish nationalist types. So what does this mean for the current Lloyds TSB Scotland customers, will we be issued with new debit cards with Bank of Scotland on them?
In the broader sense, that's the likeliest route, yes - you'll probably eventually be folded in to the Bank of Scotland brand and given new stationery etc. Either that or they'd let it run out and then just give you new stuff on expiry.
That said, I wouldn't be surpised if some more... intensive changes happened. LBG is going to be left with a stupid number of sort codes (11- to 12-69- and 80- to 81- for HBOS, 30- to 39-, 77- to 77-44-, 77-46- to 77-99- and 87- for LTSB). I wouldn't be surprised if they integrated or merged some of these to reduce the number of account books in use and simplify processing costs. Also, what about the staff it must be a nightmare for them not knowing if there jobs etc are safe?
No way to tell you, but there are towns with Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland - mine being one of them. Something is going to have to budge.I also visit in England every few months does this mean that if i hold a Bank of Scotland card after its changed from Lloyds TSB Scotland i can go into a Lloyds TSB branch in England and do my banking?
For when you visit England in the years to come, they will presumably be able to serve you in any LBG branch - HBOS are one system, if LTSB Scotland is going to BOS, I'd assume they'd merge the systems completely (which would eventually be cheaper in any event). What would William Shatner do?0 -
