Orange Mobile Contract

Options
I recently noticed that I was entering into the 19th month of my 18 month phone contract with Orange; I then cancelled the direct debit payment. I believe they might have automatically signed me up to another 18 month contract when I went into Phones 4 U (never shop here, they're awful) to get a new phone.

The arrangement was for Phones4U to buy me out of the remaining 5 months of my contract when I purchased a new phone, but to do this they said they had to lower the tariff from £35 p/month to £30 p/month, and then give me the money to buy it out myself. I allowed them to speak to Orange over the phone saying I want to reduce my tariff (I believe I might have been signed up to a new contract here), and then left the shop with £120 (they had "made a mistake" with calculating how many months I had remaining: giving me only four months rather than three). As a result of this, and an extremely tight budget and busy schedule, I ended up being unable to pay off my Orange contract, so had two mobile contracts (my stupidity is evident to myself also).

Orange have been hassling me dailly over the phone regarding my lack of payment, but I have yet to answer. I have no intention of paying for the remainder of this contract, what can I do?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

PS. Phones4U deserve to be the subject of a trading standards investigation, as some of the things they do are awful, but I digress.

  • Thanks for your response. I only cancelled it as I noticed they were about to charge me for a 19th month when I was only contracted for 18.

After your 18th month term it automatically rolls on on a month by month basis, it won't just automatically stop, so you have to give your 30 days notice at the end of month 17 if you want it to 'die' at the end of the term.
