A child becomes an adult when they cease full-time qualifying education or reach 18 (whichever is the later).

There are 3 problems where child support payments apply

    1) Both parents do not always know what their child is doing - this could be either parents fault.
    2) Child benefit appears not to be identifying fraud and the system itself could be encouraging fraud here (under 18 cannot claim benefits).
    3) Children are allowed to work - it is the hours of education that count towards entitlement to CB.

We have just been through this too, my stepson started working in July and we informed the CSA, they said they will investigate. Now dont get me wrong we have been paying CSA for 9 years as well as giving him money for clothes, football subs, school uniform etc and its not that we begrudge my stepson anything as we have still been buying him things here and there whilst he has been working.

After a couple of weeks I chased the CSA still nothing, a couple of weeks later I called them again they said that they had liaised with the CB Office and because the PWC has said that he is not working, then CSA is still payable. So I sent another letter, detailing where he was working, contact details, hours of work and the amount he got paid, I also sent this to the CB Office. Still nothing until last week, I telephoned the help line and actually got through to our Case Officer for the first time. Whilst she appreciated the effort we had gone to to give them the information, they could not act on it because we were directly involved in the case as the NRP and unless the PWC confirmed that he was working then nothing will change. But she did say that if we had a letter from his employer then they would look it at, because I helped get him his job and they know me, his employer had no problem in doing this for me. So the CSA had a letter of employment and phoned the PWC and asked if he was working, she said no, CSA said actually he is and we have a letter from his employer, PWC said 'oh'. The case is now closed and we have been refunded back to the date he started work, the CB have also been informed and she will have to pay back the CSA and CB Office. If it had been a case of being confused or something like that then I could understand, but she lied..simple as that!!

This is just our case and I am not judging anybody else but I would say that the CSA is biast towards the PWC because their guidelines tell them too, this came straight from our Case Officer's mouth.

    Sorry for the long thread

I believe there is a word for what she has done. Oh yes, thats it. Fraud...

I'm surprised the csa were allowed to divulge the exact contents of the phone call to a third party.
