help please -just discovered son working

Hi, we have had doubts estranged 18 and 1/2 year old son was not at college and working and that mother has not declared this to CB or CSA, for some time.
CSA have said while she is getting CB we have to pay, CB will tell us nothing.
We have just discovered he is working and also paying board to mother - dont want to say HOW we know on here this but it is a fact.
Just preparing to phone CSA and wondered if anyone has any ideas of what we should say to them to get them to at least dig a little deeper. Please note that we have never shirked any responsibility financially but really dont want/cant afford to pay this money if we really shouldnt be.
thanks in advance

Tell them what you know, but be prepared to tell them "how" you know.

If you know where and when he is working, tell them.

Thanks for that and we will of course tell them the full details. Just hope they act on it as so far they have just fobbed is off with "if CB is been paid nothing we can do".
Who knows how long he has been working and what money we have paid that shouldn't have.

kink - try not to focus on the money you have paid, it's your son, after all.

The main point is to get it sorted from this point onwards so that his mother doesn't de-fraud the system ;)

Notify child benefit of a possible fraud too.

Hi and thanks to you both. I am step-mum not nrp, but agree that it should not be about the money, but it is so frustrating paying a large sum of money that we probably shouldnt.
Kelloggs - we have tried CB but we dont know where they live so only have very vague details to give them.
Anyway, we called CSA, no-one hadd sent the request to CB to see if it is been paid back in March when they said they would:mad: so that request is been made today:rolleyes: and we have to call back in a week.
if it is been paid they will go to "next level" and investigate our claim he is working and if it isnt been paid they will look into a refund:rolleyes:
So again we will not hold our breath and wait until next week.

Why do people jump to conclusions about fraud?

Fact (unless changed recently) you can do up to 24 hours while parent in receipt of Child Benefit.

    Child Benefit - direct.gov

Child Benefit does not stop immediately (see website).

Why not contact his mother and ask?

I didn't say she was de-frauding the system.

However, to claim money from the lad's father when the son is not longer in full time education, is 18yrs old and working and if she's neglecting to inform the CSA then she is claiming money she is not entitled to - albeit from the father. Does that make it less fraudulent? Does that make it more ok?

I'll check out the link you kindly posted :)

I think the only thing you can do is go back to the CSA with your allegations - unfortunately the way they seem to deal with these is to ask the other party for their version of events. If the PWC says no, he only works part time or not at all and yes, he is still at college, the the CSA will most likely want some hard evidence of the allegations or will accept the PWCs version of events :(

This is not because the PWC is always believed but because the CSA always put the burden of proof on the person making the allegations whether PWC or NRP.

    Good luck
