Part-Ex Vauxhall Zafira
Hi, I've just been quoted approx. £500 for a new clutch for my 2003 Vauxhall Zafira 1.6. It has 55,000 miles on the clock.
I don't know much about cars but wanted some advice as I am thinking about trading it in :-
- approx. how much am I likely to get
- do I need to declare the faulty clutch
- do I get better deals paying with cash or am I better looking for 0% finance
- any other tips on part-ex
Thanks.

Who quoted £500? Have you tried shopping around?.....0

Not yet but I do trust this guy. Why how much would you expect ?0

Not £500.
Wayyy less than that.
I'd have thought £300.
Personally, i would definitely get the work done before you sell it. Any dealer worth his salt will spot it and devalue your car because of it - most likely by more than the cost of the repair.0 -

I've never had a dealer even drive a car before offering a part-ex price. If you want to get shot then don't waste any money on the car.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
No, the one and only time I did part-ex, they did not drive the car.0

Try Googling What Car used car valuations, just had a quick go and your Zaphira came out at around £2,500 px.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

The Vauxhall dealer I'm using for my new car just asked the plate and mileage and then gave me the book price. 54 and 85,000 miles - dealer about 300 miles away for complicated/family reasons, so no viewing before deal done and no viewing afterwards as I'm going to a different branch of same company.0

Our invoices say "The car is in a roadworthy condition" as one of the points in the px bit which the customer signs. So if the car wasn't roadworthy - ie needing a clutch then we can lower the px amount on the invoice or take it further if needed.
Would you be miffed if you bought a car and it needed a clutch? I think so...0 -
do you want a new car?
If you fix the clutch the car could be fine for another few years & would be cheaper than getting a new car.
It's easy to panic when something goes wrong and think you need a new car, repairs after 55k miles aren't unusual and zafira's are good cars- the clutch is most likely not due to the car anyway...0 -
Its not particularly economical so we thought about part-exing even before this especially as the in theory the deals we should get now should be decent.
I would probably want to get rid after around 80,000 miles so was thinking I may get another three years out of it.0
