or you could find yourself going to the ever-increasing all you can eat chinese buffets (check out with other chinese locals where their best one is). they're usually around the £6 - 9 mark and they're extremely good value esp. if you like a lot of variety in your food (Iike i do!) and i tend to go up to the counter about 5 times but only get a few things at a time. i don't actually like all the dishes mixed up on one plate or else everything just tastes of slop!
btw, i'm not advocating overindulgence here, just that you get a lot of choice for the amount you pay. so i just go for my faves (mixed veg, roast duck, singapore noodles, sweetcorn soup, spare rib sweet n sour and one or two more that i can't remember! usually none of the fried stuff as they're v unhealthy!).
recommend the toby carvery too. been recently in about 6yrs since the original visit (thought it was their £4.95 offer but it was £8.95 as it was a bank holiday monday!! ggrrr!!). and was really pleased altho' the 'chef' wasn't v generous with the meat when i only wanted pork and he gave me two badly carved bits (not slices) and that was meant to be my lot, but i asked why others were a lot more and he said they wanted all three meats and i only chose one and that mine was "equal in weight to theirs" - this was such a blatant lie and so i asked for more and he obliged only by saying that i can't tell anyone else tho'!! the cheek of him!0 -
I love crown carvery you can get two carverys, 2 pints of coke all for under a 10! Its cheaper than me cooking a sunday roast0

A problem with the all you can eat places is that it's mass-produced and the quality isn't as good as a 'sitty-downee ' specific meal...0

fiendishly wrote: »Harvester is great value, I second (or third) that, I went on saturday, £4.99 for spit-roatst chicken and as much salad as you can eat. The salad is really good too, fresh bread rolls and I just adore their 'red devil' sauce. I had a coupon for free sundae ice creams as well, they are often found in the newspapers.
It has to be noted though that these places make a lot on drinks; £2 for a J2O for my son, and you can't not have a drink....
Tesco clubcard deals on Bella Italia, Cafe Rouge, Pizza Express etc. Cannot be beaten. I always say it's a shame they are not accepted at local indian restaurants as they're by far my favourite.
My eldest likes these too,and would guzzle down loads!
but I mainly buy him a squash, when eating out or lemonade if feeling generous0 -
Wetherspoon meals and drinks (bottle of Blossom hill Rose for 4.99) are good value but they do vary from pub to pub. Weston-s-Mare is okay if the 'A' team are on duty but not always... Curry nights (Thursday) are particularly good value e/g/meal and a drink (choice of alcoholic or soft drink) for under - usually - £6. Reed Arms, Burnham-on-Sea - nice ambience and good service.0
