Secure internet access for your child .

My husband and I are very busy in our respective professions. That leaves us with very little time for our adolescent twin daughters. Sometimes it so happens that we are even unable to meet on a certain day due to all our schedules. I want to install a safe internet connection at home, so that I can at least communicate with my daughters. At the same time I fear their exposure to vulgar and adult sites. Is there any such service provider?

I'm not sure that there are any ISPs offering a filtered internet connection, but if you install something like K9 on all you PC's, you can block sites by category and view browing history. And its free.

Or instead of installing software what about using opendns servers? Go to the website and write down the numbers (DNS), then pop these in the router and then the majority of questionable sites will be blocked automatically.

How about something like a family mobile phone plan so you can get cheap texts/calls to each other or install msn/skype on your phones

Try "Open DNS", if you get an internet provider that gives you a static IP address then Open DNS will enable you to set filters up so that unless they change the DNS server settings they will not be able to access unsuitable sites.

Another vote for Open DNS, but its not something you will be able to do otherwise you wouldnt be asking and also some routers allow you to block websites by keywords and limit internet access to specific times as well.

Maybe KidSurf Software is something for you? It's a free web browser for kids.
They also have free e-mail service (K-Mail) which should protect against e-mails from strangers, etc.
(I cannot post links yet as a new member/low post count, but KidSurf could be Googled or someone else could probably post the links.)

NO ISP will filter the net for you, any more than a phone provider will block undesirable numbers. There is plenty of parental software available, some ISP's offer this with the broadband package, but they won't enable it for you. You have to decide what to allow and not allow and set it up accordingly.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
