MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Would you give up a £50 train seat for a pregnant woman?

So do you think a 57-year-old should stand up for several hours in order to allow a young pregnant lass to sit down?

In this particular instance one would hope a younger person sat near you would step in and offer their seat as this would only be good manners. Saying that being 57 is hardly geriatric - however if you honestly believe your need is greater, due to ill health or infirmity, then that's a personal choice and fair enough.

Personally I would immediately offer up my seat to pregnant, elderly or a physically disabled passenger. Further more if a mother with a young child gets on a crowded tube train I also offer them a seat as I know what a nightmare it is for parents keeping young children from falling when the train pulls in and out of stations. In my mis-guided World these are just common courtesies.

ETA Some seats have a notice beside them saying "Please give up this seat if an elderly or disabled person needs it", but no mention of pregnant women.

Many seats, including all the marked one's on London Transport, do refer to pregnant women.

Don't know about London, only Merseyrail ;).

We'll agree to differ then, and let's see how you feel when you are approaching 60 with the usual "trivial" aches, pains and general weariness that go with increasing age, and bags to carry.

If someone was on the point of collapse of course I would vacate a seat for them, but pregnancy isn't an illness.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Don't get me wrong, I would really be disappointed if your fellow younger passengers allowed you, as a 57 year old woman, to give up your seat instead of them. I suppose my point is if we all showed a little more compassion and consideration to one another then in a carriage full of passengers you wouldn't have to offer your seat to the pregnant woman as some one else, younger and more able bodied, would do so.

I know pregnancy isn't an illness but it's bleeding hard work and a huge physical strain in that last trimester.

No I wouldn't. But I'd suggest to the women she find the Guard and starts crying until she gets a free upgrade to 1st class.

Oh wait! I'd already be IN 1st class, to the situation wouldn't arrise.
  • No. If I stood for 10 mins just a rock of the train and I'd be falling on floor. Disabled but it doesnt show so would hope to avoid the glares.

Disabled but it doesn't show (and booked seat) Vs Pregnant and does show. No need to hope there, disability and common sense to book wins hands down.

It hasn't slipped my mind at all. But we need to remedy the problems we are having with growing overpopulation, because the planet's resources are finite and running out. It's as simple as that. I didn't say everyone should stop having children, but we do need to start limiting it - and taking care of the kids who already exist and don't have homes.

Well thats overpopulation solved then, dont give pregnant women seats oon trains, right who is up for sorting global warming?

For some strange reason I'd sooner give up a seat for a disabled or elderly person over a pregnant woman. Im really not sure why either, I just see them as less needy.
