  • Hi kathfisch,

I haven't been online for a couple of days (story to follow in another thread!) but I just wanted to say it was really interesting to hear your story tonight - I was curious too - I'm really chuffed that you feel more in control of your life and I hope that you still spend some time on DFW! Good luck with the future!

    Lots of love

Thank you for your comments :) Had noticed you weren't around, will look out for the story!

I will definitely still spend time on DFW, if everyone'll have me! Was worried you'd all decide I'm not in enough debt and chuck me out :o :rotfl:

Hey hey! Well, as promised but maybe a little late, I've dug out my paperwork and done me sums....

Loan up until august (incl interest) = £6260.64
Loan amount for this year (not incl interest) = £2735
    Total = £8995.64

And my savings are at £1280 at the mo although that is going up quite fast since I started this whole frugal business!

So.... drum roll.... only £7715.64 in debt  :rotfl:

Have added all this to my sig now, just wanted to update this thread of mine!

I'm off to bed now but will check back tomorrow, feel free to comment...... :D

    Hey kath

Saw your signature a few moments ago on another thread and was trying to work out how to say 'woo hoo well done!!! :T ' without hijacking the other person's thread :rotfl:

Thank you for providing me with a solution and for putting it all up for public scrutiny! You are doing GREAT :T

Thanks Moozie, its nice to know that people do take notice! I felt a bit nervous working it out cos I've never really thought about it being debt before. That sounds really silly, obviously I knew I was getting in debt to do my course but I guess because of only repaying it when I can afford it i wasn't too worried. Since becoming a fully fledged DFW nerd, though, I'm determined to clear it asap, psychologically at least!

    Thanks for your comments :D

Have been slowly working my way through all the threads I've missed over the weekend (trip to Scotland scouting out possible new homes) and just wanted to say that I'm really happy that you got brave enough to put it all in your sig. It made me really concentrate on whittling down (or up) the figures just so I can show myself I can do it.

That said, I rather wish I'd written somewhere permanent how well we've done - every time I update I lose my progress so far. Not that it matters much at this point. But if you want a lasting memory maybe putting it on paper would be good?

I think it's fair to say your debt is very much 'controlled'. It's not a normal loan or a credit card, the interest rate is very favourable and you will only be paying it back when you are earning above the threshold. If there was an ideal way of being in debt, I think you've got it ;)

Having said all that, you have the right attitude to money and savings and that makes all the difference in the world! :T

I thought I was mature and sensible when I was your age. Reading your posts and seeing how you deal with money makes me realise I was just another young, naive and stupid student with too much credit available to me :o

That's a great idea fairylights, thank you! It would be nice to have a record somewhere of how I've done since the beginning. I might need to add another page to my growing collection of spreadsheets! :rotfl:

I hope the house hunting went well :D

Moozie, what a nice thing to say, thank you!

I agree that I'm lucky to have a very manageable debt rather than some horrific credit card interest etc, I'm just thankful that I found this new way of life before it got that far!

I have to be thankful to my parents really, they've set a good example when it comes to credit. No matter how tight things were I remember credit being seen as very much something to avoid if possible, we always cut back when it was needed.

Thankfully their attitude has rubbed off on me, albeit with a momentary lapse :rotfl:
