I keep seeing some posters on here saying that you will only get the best upgrades/ retentions deals if you are a profitable customer, but how would you know if you are? I am on three I have a SE k850i which had a one off cost of £50 and pay £20 a month for 100 minutes, which I only use about 50 of, and 1000 texts, which I use about 600 of. I also pay around £3 a month for internet usage ( not a bolt on). My contract is 18 months. I have had to have my phone repaired twice under manufacture warranty which three sent me a pre paid envelope for both times and returned after fixing. Would you think that I am a profitable customer or not?

It's not that you are a profitable customer per se, but they will fight harder to keep someone that spends £60 a month compared to someone who spends £10 a month. You are effectively spending £23 pound a month, which is a reasonable amount. You won't get the deal that someone spending £35-£40 will, but you should still get something decent. Or, to put it another way, something to make it worth staying with 3. When does your contract expire?"MIND IF I USE YOUR PHONE? IF WORD GETS OUT THATI'M MISSING FIVE HUNDRED GIRLS WILL KILL THEMSELVES."0

Minimum term ends in September, eligiable for upgrade from June but know I will have to wait til closer to September to get the best deal. Want to keep current minutes and texts and hoping might get N96 for below £50, they are asking £150 from new customers at the moment but new customers get 200 minutes and unlimited texts for £20 a month so hoping that if I keep to lower level usage and a bit of money off for loyalty and fact that N97 is out soon then I may get it cheap.0

Its not really worth thinking about upgrading until you're in the final month. Anything before then is just a waste of time with 3 as they won't offer you anything decent. I would just wait until September and then look at the market again as there are certainly better deals than 3.
They may be the pioneers of low cost deals but they are no longer at the forefront with regards to upgrades.0
