Second Hand Car Adverts

I am in the market for a new (2nd hand) car and I have noticed in a couple of the specialist advertising papers adverts for quite new cars at very low prices - almost 50% less than market value. It does not say they are Cat C/D but always says telephone numbers don't work and gives an e mail address to contact on.

It generally applies to upmarket vehicles and does not say if it is a trade or a private sale.

Is it some sort of scam and just a way to build a data base of e mail addys??

This one is for a VW EOS as the OH is after a convertable but I have seen them when I have been looking at Porsche Boxsters.

I will guarantee that, when you email an enquiry, the owner is currently overseas (often Italy) but will ship the car to you and you will have an acceptance period during which you can accept or reject the car for a full refund.

In other words it is a complete scam and the car does not exist.

Just stick to Autotrader that's the easiest way, Or the local paper's.

As you may know when you buy a 2nd hand vehicle it is 99.% 'Sold as seen'

And the previous owner will have washed their hands of it.

My Boss brought a car that was advertised on pistonheads, a £45k 911 turbo. I do not know what his experience with them was like but I have seen him driving the car, so he must have got it! He is the sort of bloke to create merry hell if things were not going his way.

Stick to the dealers that advertise on their classifieds as they have contact Nos in their ads for you to ring.

I'm not sure i see the link between a scam on autotrader involving a Volkswagen Eos that doesnt exist, and your boss buying a Porsche off pistonheads?
