Getting a phone line from Sky instead of BT

Hiya

I'd just like to share with you all the positive experience I've had with sky!

I am moving house in 11 days and have been arranging phone lines/ sky etc, Now I hate bt, they are so pants, Charge you a minimum of £25 a month if you pay direct debit, if you don't charge you £4.50 everytime you pay your bill "payment processing fee" Total rubbish. Anyway so I originally looked into getting a phone line and thought that I could only get one from BT as it has always been, on phoning them they said they wanted £50 deposit due to my credit check!!! (no idea why!), I managed to get the £122.50 fee waivered due to taking out an 18 month contract (a deal they have on just now). When told about the £50 i'd be needing to pay I thought, Um no actually thats not ok and said I would think about it and phone back. On checking through Sky's website i noticed they "may" be able to instal a line for you so gave them a call. Long story short, I am getting my phone line installed with sky for an installation charge of £25! Not too bad! I am also paying £10 a month line rental for free evenings and weekends, a saving of £4.50 a month from bt, All in all my bill for line rental, Sky and broadband is £34.50 a month. What a bargain. Counldn't be happier!:j

So, if your thinking about getting a phone lnie from bt but are getting sky too why not get it through sky and save yourself alot of money and hassle! :D

We got a new line installed by Sky in Feb and were even luckier - completely free installation! :) Have no complaints about the service either.

You must have some extra packages then,
Basic Sky, skytalk and broadband is £16.50
    Line rental £10.00

    total £26.50
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Sorry this annoys me. Thats £4.50 a quarter, Sky charge non direct debit fees of £4 a month, so thats £12 in the same timescale.

    Otherwise, carry on. :p

  • I think you are missing the point here though drunkstar? dont think it's that they dont want to pay direct debit, it would seem that bt will charge at least £25 per month for dd which for some people is too much. Or maybe i am reading it wrong but thats how it came across to me?

Maybe they got the better broadband - the one with no limits, that's what I've got.

Thats wrong though. BT wil either charge on a 'Whole Bill Direct Debit' where whats due is taken, or a 'Monthly Payment Plan' where they agre a set ammount in advance. It may be that they now ask for £25 on an MPP, I dont know as I dont work there anymore.:j
(edit: unless the £25 was just the total for phone and BB of course. In which case fair enough)

Either way its pointless and a tad stupid to complain about the non DD charge and call it unfair then reccomend a company with a higher one without pointing it out.

And for the record, I dont have anything to do with BT either as a customer or as staff. :)

If you already have Sky TV, I personally have found the phone and broadband package to be great.

I only have one bill now instead of three (formerly Sky, BT and Pipex Internet). Sky handled the whole switchover - even speaking to BT on my behalf to cancel my account. The only thing I had to do after ordering was supply my MAC code from Pipex. Then everything happened over the course of a few weeks and they kept me updated. No interruption in phone service from the line switch, and Internet was active on the day they said so I just installed their modem that day and was away.

I was previously paying about £11 a month to BT for line rental and £24 to Pipex for unlimited broadband. Now it's £20 to Sky for both and comes with free evening and weekend landline-to-landline calls.

Haven't tried moving house yet, but when I do at least I'll only have one company to deal with. :)

When I was with BT they charged an estimate - £50 a month by direct debit - I cancelled it after the first month.
