Camden areas

Hey guys

Was looking for some advice. My partner has been offered a job in Camden (london) and is pretty much decided to take it. I have agreed to follow him down in the next few months but in the mean time he would be looking to rent a property.
I was wondering if anyone could give us some advice on the areas in Camden. I have heard Islington is quiet nice and so is west hampstead (but pricey!) Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

P.S renting budget is £800-900pcm.

cheers

  • Hampstead is very expensive, West Hampstead/Kilburn not too bad. I'd also look atTufnell Park and Kentish Town on the Northern Line. If you don't mind traveling a bit further, Muswell Hill (nearest tube is Highgate) is very pretty and the shops are great!
  • thats great,

Hadn't even looked at Muswell Hill. Will do now

    Thanks again
  • I love Muswell Hill, very trendy!

I dont know north london that well, but yes, muswell hill and hampstead are lovely!

Dont live in camden. bit rough, and apparently impacts on your contents insurance!

And dont forget to try to barter down the cost of the rents, apparently very easy to do in London at the mo!

    Enjoy !

    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

You might want to look at Crouch End as well.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.
  • thats fantastic - didn't know you could barter down the cost of the rents- good to know as a money saver!!!
Thanks for all the advice - defo not going to Camden, looking at highgate / muswell hill at the moment.

    Cheers Guys !!

The trick is when you are going to view places, if you look at the ones in the loot/internet what not, and only look at the ones that are already empty... Ive known of people saving 100 a month off of the rental rate.... very MSE!

What size property are you looking at? From my research into rental in London I found that we would struggle to rent a two bedroom flat in North London for under £1000. My sister lives in Kilburn and she said that even in the tower block she lives in, the private rented flats are going at about £1000 per month. They are a good size, though the lifts do stink of pee.

We were initially looking at West London (Hounslow, Ealing, Chiswick) and they weren't too bad rent wise. We then started looking in South West London (Southwark, Kingston) and the prices were even more affordable.

  • We would be happy with a one bedroom place- as long as its a decent size ( and doesn't stink of pee!!)
Its just overwhelming coming from a small village and coming down to a city as huge as London so thanks again to everyone who has posted a reply. Its really helpful. The other thing I was going to ask is - How long would it take to drive from Highgate/ Muswell hill to Camden?
    Thanks

Have a look on this site . It should help to give you an idea of rental prices.

Also, this site has loads of useful information regarding the various area.

Campden is pretty manic in places but is a really fun place to hang out. It used to be one of my old stomping grounds when I was younger. We can't wait until this time next year when we will be moving back again. My mum and dad are really excited too!
