Satelite tv problem.

Last year i bought a second hand sat box ( has card but free) dish , meter , coax etc from a fellow motorhomer to use in our motorhome.
We were shown how to set it up etc and it worked fine.
Tried to set up yesterday, meter said ex signal & also had it lined up with neighbours dish but tv said " no signal" ???
It has just been stored in the motorhome since Sept last year and not moved so cant understand why it wont work now.
Any ideas please.
We have freeview in house so are not familiar with sky etc.

Have you tuned the tv to the channel? Does your tv have an autoscan or auto tune? Run that, the tv will then find BBC1, ITV, etc etc and it will also find the channel that the satellite signal is on.
  • Some Sky digibox's are prone to PSU (power supply unit) failure.

What is the make and model of the box?

It sounds like you have it aimed at the wrong satellite. Using the neighbours dish as a guide will give you a rough idea of where to point, but within that general area of the sky there may be several satellites transmitting on identical frequencies. In order to find the correct angle you will need to slowly move the dish left and right until you find another strong signal. Eventually you should get the correct satellite.

It is a pace sky + DV3 box. Fairly old one i think.
We can get the signal strength etc screen up no probs and it is reading oooo and i have read it should read 002.
We have also left it on over night with the card in as it hasnt been on for months to see if that solves it.
Then we are going to try aligning dish again to try and get astra 2.
I have also managed to get a freecycle sat box so will try that if all else fails it may be newer !!!
Thanks for the suggestions. I may be back !!!!!!!!!!!!

100% you are pointed at the wrong sat.

The OP has tried it on a neighbour's dish, to no avail, clearly suggesting the fault is with the digibox, not a dish alignment problem.

The earlier Pace models suffer from zip tuner problems; slightly later versions have CPU problems.

Unless you have got a Pace 2600, DS430N or Javelin receiver it is probably not worth repairing (c£35).

No the OP said they lined there dish up in the direction of there neighbours dish, not that they tried the box on the OP's dish (which would be a good test if you are friendly with your neighbour to rule it out).

As has been said it is almost certainly an allignment problem. The meter will give you the direction but it needs fine tuning to lock on to the signal. Can you set the TV up where you can see it while playing with the dish. If so keep it on the signal test screen and move the LNB around until you get some signal strength in the meters then fine tune.

Problem solved. Dish was too vertical for correct sat signal.
    Thanks all..........
