Morning all. Thanks for the positive thoughts to start with Sally, will have to give that a go today.. no hot water this morning, OH is being odd (well, odder than usual), work looks like being a long boring day again

Snags - hope you start making progress with the school.
Sammy - some people are just naturally fast! 1.04 is still a great time :)
Erm, I'm not sure what we're wishing Bunny and Buffy good luck for as I haven't been around for a few days - but good luck!

I've not had a swine flu leaflet.
Come to think of it I've had no post at all since Thursday which is odd.
Wonder if SIL has hidden it somewhere.

Snags I know I keep banging on about it but do try to get through to the children with disability team, they can put pressure on the exclusion team for you. Remember the exclusion lot deal with all kids but the disabilty team are there just for kids with special needs.

Don't let them fob you off, tell them you really need help, it's a pain getting them on board but once they are they have the authority to really get things moving.

Snags, did the school say how long he is to be excluded for. Is he at home with you today?

If it was me I would be so frustrated.......I would want to get it sorted NOW!

He's only excluded till tomorrow, but at the moment I feel like the relationship with the school has broken down too much for him to be able to return.

They have excluded him for swearing on the basis that the language he used was 'abusive' (the 'f' word).

    My argument is:

    - He is autistic and outbursts like this have always been part of his condition. They have never excluded him before, or even hinted that they might.

    - Excluding an autistic child for swearing is discriminating against him because of a disability - his condition has side effects he can't yet control. Autistic adults are often unable to control these outbursts, so an 8 year old has virtually no chance.

    - They are already fully aware he has a problem with swearing because the autism outreach team that came into school were working on it with him. He was allowed, as an interim measure, to say 'ohhh EFF AITCH' as an alternative for swearing (with a view to then replacing with more socially acceptable words once he had a little more control). If he was failing at this, why hasn't it been discussed with me? There has been no communication from the school to let me know that the measures weren't working. The head told me 'It's not the first time'......well, it's the first time you've told ME about it!

    - They wont apply for funding so he can have extra help because 'his behaviour isn't bad enough'. If it's not bad enough, or frequent enough, to warrant funding, how can they justify excluding him.

    - He isn't using language in an abusive way, he is eight years old, and doesn't even know what the words mean. Calling it abuse is ridiculous in the extreme.

    - He hit a teacher last week - awful I know - but the point I am making here is that he wasn't excluded for that because they 'try to be tolerant as they are aware of his condition'. There was no hint when we went to discuss that with the head that exclusion was imminent. How can a few swear words be less tolerable than violence. What message is that giving Ryan, and the other children?

    - It is an illegal exclusion because not only have we not been given paperwork but Education Leeds haven't even been informed.

    - I feel like they are trying to 'manage him away' from the school. The government's inclusion policy says Ryan has to attend mainstream education - so therefore the school should be geared up to cope with autistic children (they have 2 at the school, the other has also been excluded on more than one occasion). Ryan takes up extra resource and costs them extra money but doesn't bring in any extra funding. The school is skint. It doesn't take a genius...

I know none of this is moneysaving related, but can anyone think of anything obvious I've missed?

That happens to me all the time y'know...... no matter how hard i train i am always much slower than most others....

but positive thinking head on, me n runchum rachel were doing 5.5miles on friday night and rachel opted out before 3miles, and i had the focus to go on and complete my 5.5miles... so i may be slow but i have focus!!

My time for 5.5 was 1hr 6 mins, so if i can do that pace at my next 10k i should come in on 1hr 12mins...

    Sammy your 1:04 is brill!!

your pal is good too, but some peeps have natural speed... pah!!

Spud - well done on doing the distance!! do you feel better knowing that you'll come in under 2 hours...?
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

Thanks - it was the children with disabilities team that told me I need to speak to exclusions. I will see what they say today and will get back in touch with the children with disabilities team once I've spoken to them.

I've also been advised to ring IPSEA - their helpline opens at 10am so will give them a try.

I've also got a local support group helping me via their online forum.

I've always felt a bit lost by who all the various people and departments are, and haven't had a clue where to start, but I do feel like the fog is clearing a bit now.

Sorry to ramble on about it on here, but for some reason it's helping me keep everything clear in my brain!
