ok obvious thing first....

1st problem was taking it to PC world.
lol!
ok on to helpful hints...
First reboot and press the "f8" key till you get he boot menu.
Select "Safe Mode with Networking"
If you can get that far, see if IE loads up.
One thing to try is Download Firefox browser onto a USB stick.
Install Firefox on to your PC and see if that loads. It might be a virus / malware stopping IE starting properly.Laters

£70 to blow some dust out? That must have taken them all of 3 minutes...compressed air does not cost that much.
But what were the symptoms that led you to take it into PCW? Overheating due to dust build usually manifests itself as unexplained crashes or shutdowns after it has been running a while, and the heat builds up with nowhere to go to.
Inability to do a Sys Restore sound more like an infection of some sort.No free lunch, and no free laptop

when it said no, it asks if you want to repair or something like that. See what it fails on as this be of help however little it is. When Trying to boot into safe mode, turn the computer of fully , then boot up just as it gets to the end of the first boot up screen , just keep pressing the f8 key untill a black & white menu appears , using up and down arrows select safe mode with networking.Peter: Hey Lois... what's this word? How he can diagnose dust from it going straight to sleep mode is beyond me-there is no connection whatsoever, the only way to diagnose dust is to whip the cover off and see the dust...
To get to Safe Mode, just keep tapping F8 on boot up about once a second. No free lunch, and no free laptop
