oh didnt realise that crampo....will have to look for one and try it - see if that makes it better then?
thanks0 -
its a fujitsu siemens amilo la1703
Oh dear - my son's amilo broke down after only 4 months. Hard drive failed and screen flickered.
This can work for an overheating laptop: with the laptop switched off, blow really really really hard into the fan grills (several short sharp hard blows). This can loosen dust and grot. Then use your vacuum over the grills to suck out any loose dust. On my laptop this lowered its operating temperature by more than 20 degrees (I have some software which tells me how hot the CPU runs).
Tip: don't ever buy another amilo.0 -
If You are feeling like the repair person , most laptops comes with sections on the bottom to access major hardware compoments - RAM , CPU , HDD. that you can unscrew the sections and clean inside.
probably not the best way to clean computer compments, but i usually once a month a paintbrush (new) and unscrew all the sections and clean it out , take out the hdd and clean around the connections and cleaning fans out. I do this with my main desktop. they can suck in so much dirt and dust its surprising.Peter: Hey Lois... what's this word? Lois: Evil. Peter: And this one? Lois: Knievel. Peter: And this one? ive done all the blowing and ran out of puff lol....

yer if your not sure about it don't risk it, just found out in another post on here , they got charged £70 to clean dust out of the computer. thats the reason i mention about doing it youself. these big companies can see people coming a charge a hell of alot , for something you could of done yourselfPeter: Hey Lois... what's this word? thanks so much for your warning - ill leave it till tomorrow though as im shattered now and dont want to do anything while tired.....yep if im unsure i will leave it but see what happens...
im logging off now but thanks so much for your help and everyone else....xxx0 -
i used trend micro housecall/panda and kapersky and they only showed a couple of faults which i fixed and then rescanned and they didnt show up then - these were an issue with norton protection centre which i uninstalled and a couple of spyware things - the usual spyware that gets through...i used ccleaner to clean it all then
it was bought new summer 07 from currys....
and i wouldnt dare use a spray or something on it because i might then make it worse and then the insurers would turn round and say they wouldnt pay out because id dont the harm.....also - i wont be taking it to a repair centre and paying out for it doing when it is insured - surely this is what our insurance is for??
thanks for all your replies though....i will use my laptop vac on it and see if there is any dust in there though so thanks for that tip...xx
The 'spray' is just a can of compressed air, it is the standard method of dust removal. It does not leave any residue. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I work with computers, professionally, and I really can't recommend you do this (sorry crampo). Yes fans do need need cleaning every now and again, but HDD connections and RAM do not.0 -
Cleaning a desktop PC with a can of air and a small brush is easy. A laptop is entirely different, becaue there is no space between the components and to access them you have to part-dismantle it. Canned air is the best way, it should at least improve the airflow. No free lunch, and no free laptop

crampo - there are no installed antivirus on it - i just used the online scanners as advised on here (online scanners thread).....oh - he keeps ccleaner on it and uses it when remembers.....but nothing much needed to be cleaned...
when you mentioned taking it somewhere i thought you meant me pay - sorry,,, yes ive had to take my daughters laptop to currys once to be mended so understand thats how most work....as it was bought at comet i think domestic and general will tell me to take it there yes....
jaffa - like me - my son just pops the laptop on his lap and uses it that way so am sure air can flow ok??
thanks all....do appreciate your help...x
If the laptop is used on the net and it runs windows you should really have anti virus installed, even if it is behind a router. There are many good, free options out there, Avast and AVG seem to be popular.Mortgage £120K, monthly overpayment £600, 18 years and £100K saved0
