ok need some advice
im looking to spend a month away over xmas with kids and want to know my safest bet for a bit of sunshine and whether anywhere will be hot enough for the pool
cheapest options are
gran canaria
tenerife
lanzarote
cyprus
goza or malta
egypt
tunisia
anyone got any experience of these places over winter?
i know tunisia and cyprus are ok but not for the pool but havent been to anywhere else on my list but ideally want somewhere where i can hire a pool which is warm enough to use:rolleyes:
ps there are 7 of us so i am taking advantage of the cheaper flight options!

Malta and Gozo are really hit and miss.We have been there over xmas and wore t-shirts and shorts but have also been there when the weather was very cold, wet and windy.
I would of thought your best bet would have been either Egypt or the Canaries."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -

would not rely on Tenerife being a safe bet, we were there last christmas and the weather was 'iffy' to say the least. Cold, rain and the odd partly sunny day. Not warm enough to go in the pool unless it was heated...0 -
The advantage that the Canaries has in December/Janauary is that the nights are still relatively mild. I'm soft so would prefer a heated pool at any of these locations in winter - 25 degrees instead of under 20.0

Canaries at Christmas? Don't be silly, have a Turkey like the rest of us do!
Seriously, I went to Gran Canaria on 10 December for 1 week, a few years back and the weather was good. Went to Tenerife the following year in February and had minor hurricanes and torrential rain. Pot luck really. We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.0 -

the cheapest flights ive found are lanzarote so far, im planning on a month with oh joining us after xmas as hes a chef so cant get time off before, im more hoping for a bit of sun really as get totally run down at winter time so this year i want it to be different:rolleyes:

My MIL and FIL go to Tenerife every year for the Christmas and New Year, they always come back with a tan and MIL makes a point of going in the pool on Christmas Day and New Years Day. Last year they did have a couple of rainy days where the temperature was cooler but they still came back brown and that is the only time they have been and not had brilliant sunshine the entire time and they have been going at this time of year for over 10 years.
DP and I have been with them a couple of times and it has been mid 20's, the pool has been cold but as usual once your in it's fine.
1 Month Away in the dead of winter- lucky lucky you! x:love:11th March 2010- Got engaged to my amazing fiance, planning our wedding for 2012

thats a thumbs up for tenerife then!
what is it like generally there? will i be able to while away time with the little ones..i dont mind so long as there is a local kiddies park and a beach to play on even if it means wearing a jumper so long as theres a bit of fresh air and sun:rolleyes:***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -
I am watching this with baited breath! I too am thinking of something similar, not sure about a whole month but will need a good break somewhere hot this xmas. I get very run down in the winter and I have just got next yrs time table and I have 6 months straight without any time off while on placement and have uni work to do also.We are a family of 7 too. :-)Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0

Tenerife is family friendly, nice beaches and parks, decent shopping. Loads of restaurants and cafes. The market is good. We don't have children and haven't ever been with children but there are always lots of little ones about and they don't seem to be fed up.
Obviously there are different areas to Tenerife, I am describing the playa de las americas, costa adeje area.
Tenerife is quite commercial, there is not very much traditional spanish life so if this is what you're looking for, you may need to look elsewhere. This is why we don't go every year with the IL's as we prefer a little more local charater but that said there is lots to do and see and it's a nice sunny, safe place for a good holiday.
The water park in costa adeje is really good its called AquaLand, it's so much fun! Also Loro Parque is worth a visit too (it's a wildlife park).
Depending upon when you want to fly out, I'd get your flights booked sooner rather than later if you choose Tenerife because close to Christmas/New Year they cost an absolute fortune and the longer you leave it the more expensive they get!

Been going to Gran canaria over Xmas for the last 17 years and had mostly good weather eg 70/75 degrees,i am not going this year because the tour operators have increased the prices so much and together with the Euro and the greedy restaurant and bar owners doubling the prices on New years eve and xmas eve THEY CAN SHOVE IT !!!0
