Laptop Flickering Screen

I have a fujitsu L6820 laptop which I recently bought from ebay. However the screen flickers really bad, when I first got it it was awful, I went into the bios and reset to optimum defaults and the flickering slowed down to a mere flickering at the edge of the screen. When windows loaded, I noticed that there was no drivers installed for the graphics card, so downloaded and installed it. Amazingly enough, the screen was perfect, no problems at all! However, when I switched it off and came to switch it on the next day, the screen flickers again. It flickers quite badly until it gets to the windows login stage, where it changes to just flickering at the edge of the screen? Any suggestions/ideas? I have had the laptop to pieces to check the screen cable is in properly, and both ends are in fine. I think it may be software problem but not sure?

Cheers in advance.

When you say flickering, does the image go off completely, or is it just dimming? Could be the backlight tube's going, that starts as an intermittant flickering/dimming...

There's a very fine fluorescent tube which back illuminates the screen - there are specialists who will replace these, otherwise it's a new LCD.

    Try Googling for backlight replacement.

If in doubt then before replacing a laptop screen try connecting it to a monitor (it shoudl have the connector at the back somewhere so you can hook it up. If you get flickering on that too then it ain't the screen on the laptop.

In either case I'd try flashing the BIOS and clearing the cmos (you'll usually find instructions on the manufacturers website if in doubt) and then re-install the OS and driver for the praphics card. If this doesn't fix it it could be the graphics card (prob built in so a new mother board ouch or the screen again ouch...) if it is hardware then I'd check the T & C on your purchase from Ebay and try to get yoru money back :)

its more of the image flickering, rather than the brightness (sometimes appears as two images flickering across the screen.

I bought it described as "image flickers occassionaly", but it flickers cont and have managed to get most of the money back (paid £165 originally, refunded £75 so it cost me £90 which isnt bad for a 2.4ghz laptop, even if it has to go back on ebay as spares or repairs).

Ill try flashing bios etc as suggested and let you know how I get on.
