Customer complaining about combining postage costs

You don't say what the postage cost was and what you eventually charged.

You are permitted to charge a "reasonable amount" for packaging materials and time, but not to take the p*** beacuse you don't like the fees.

If you list something for 1p then you need to be prepared for it to sell at that price and not to make it up by overcharging postage. You will get away with it for a while, but your ratings will (quite rightly) drop, you could get negs and eBay could ban you for fee avoidance.

i'm not profesionally selling there now, i got sick of them. i still sell the occasional thing on there but i'm not interested in importing £10,000 upwards of stock at a time for ebay to make over 30% more from it than me.

    Not really bitter are you?

You must have been a really crap seller if ebay were making more out of it that you were.

I'm glad you're now leaving it to those of us who know what we are doing.

It's up to you, however a neg for each and every item is going to make your future sales almost impossible. You need to balance all that out, a large volume seller can takes negs and poor stars, a smaller seller cannot.

Would all the negs count as it's from one buyer?
Also, if you post all of the items together you can only prove on item arrived. Assuming you post recorded.

I don't think there is any reason to suppose buyer is going to complain that items didn't arrive, unless I've missed something:confused:. However for paypal purposes they just need one tracking per payment, so if a seller sells 3 things and sends one invoice that counts as one trasaction, not three. The seller also saves money on paypal by not paying the extra 20ps per item.

The negs used to only count once, but under the new 'buyer disatisfaction' rules I'm not entirely sure if they each count as a seperate strike on the seller (not for the purposes of the feedback percentage though). Add to that though the stars on each being marked down considerably, and i believe they do count individually and the possibility of at least one complaint to ebay about fee avoidance and the seller is on dodgy grounds. Stars at 4.4 plus a red seller dashboard for compliance and buyer satisfaction is an automatic ban.

I recently started offering free postage on all my buy it now auctions, sales have gone up quite a bit and I'm actually charging quite a bit more for my items than I was before. People on ebay really begrudge paying postage, any postage.

Though I've still had a few ebayers asking for a postage discount on free postage :rotfl:

Not really sure of your logic there, but when i started up on ebay i had around £500 in my bank account, after just under 3 years of making £1,000 or more a week consistently and treating myself to some great new luxuries including 3 new cars i walked away with £50,000 in the bank which i used to start 2 new businesses, which incidently no one makes more from than me and i control 100%, remember, ebay have the power to close your business down at anytime.

Yea, i often wondered what i was doing wrong when i was selling on ebay, i was working 3 hours a day on average for a poxy £1,000 to £1,500 profit a week, i just couldn't make it work...:D

I voluntarily gave a discount of £3 at the start taking his postage down to £7.50. Realistically I was taking the p a bit seeing as it only cost £2 to send the lot, so I discounted it further meaning that he paid £4 for the postage which I thought seemed fair enough. I think I would feel bitter if everyone that had bought from me wanted the exact money back, it's the principle really, it takes your power away I think, that and the fact that they've agreed to pay that price.
However how am I actually gaining from one person buying multiple items? Surely everyone looks to make money on the postage.I would be making more money by selling to different people.
But if the shoe was on the other foot I'm sure I would be complaining too.
