 OMG have you seen this; http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20091030/twl-wee-for-wii-water-drinking-contest-d-3fd0ae9.html

A lesson for all us compers
The poor family. I've seen some stupid comps, but this is ridiculous!

OMG what an inane comp that was. Poor kids knowing their mum quite literally drank herself to death trying to win them a wii. The mind boggles at the stupid radio station.

Just a warning if you enter competitions run by Scottish and Newcastle brewers. I have definate proof that this group, who have brands like John Smiths, Strongbow, Fosters, Kronenbourg, Heineken etc will sell your mobile number to premium rate services.

This evening I had a message costing me £1.50 to receive from a company selling ringtones. Having made further enquiries I can confirm that they purchased my number from Scottish and Newcastle. At no time can I remember any T&C in the recent S&N competitions stating that this would happen.

My mobile provider has blocked all premium rate received numbers. I will be contacting S&N PR department in Edinburgh on Monday. I have also now lodged a formal complaint with ICSTIS and will provide proof to them of this underhand practice.

Me and hubby also got texts from TopTones in the last few days... he had one and I had two, each text cost £1.50... not happy... telephoned them and they took us off their list and said they had our numbers from a competition... said they would send a cheque to cover the cost we already paid but was reluctant to share details with them so refused...

    Number was 88222...

In these recession hit times it seems that more and more site owners are tempted to post competitions hosted on there own sites and there has been a glut of self promoted comps on mse competitions time recently

as it is mse policy not to allow the site owners to post there own competitions I am just wondering if there is a better way forward as there are far too many sites being deleted with regular competitions with great prizes who then never seeing the light of day again on mse

take for instance the comps at Love Offers perfectly good comps perfectly good site but they have been banned for all eternity because of self promotion, I know that they are still posted but it is now awkward and cumbersome to enter them

as it is not in the best interest of us compers and the site owners for a competition to be deleted for self promotion and for the site never to appear again on mse

maybe it would be a good idea to have a warning or sticky prominently displayed on mse competitions time about self promotion, it might also be a good idea to say that if you are thinking of self promoting please be aware that your competition may be deleted and your site may be banned from mse indefinitely

I personally think think that in these severe economic times that mse shouldn't punish and penalise site owners for trying to generate traffic to there sites by providing competitions that we are oh so willing to enter,

so it might be a good idea if there could also be a list in the sticky of senior members of mse competitions time who are willing to accept pm's to post the competitions for the site owners so that perfectly good comps are not deleted for self promotion

just my thoughts but I thought that I would share them with you!

    Best of Luck :)
  • Hi everyone, just wondered if anyone actually received their cinema tickets from the VW comp/promoion that was meant to be having a special screening at cinemas on 28th October? My husband 'won' a pair of tickets and I was really excited about going because I haven't been very lucky on the comping front but the tickets never arrived:cry: really disappointed, do you think its worth complaining?

Also want to say a huge thank you to everyone for posting comps, very much appreciated!:T

I think that you should always complain and tell them if you are unhappy with the outcome of a competition

as most competitions are organized to promote good customer relations and to actually get you to visit there site and buy there products

you will usually find that they are quite happy to apologise and offer you an alternative prize

    Best of Luck :)

hello folks is this the right place to ask some questions when starting to comp? If it isnt my apologises! I just moved to a new flat, and have been having some problems with the address, it is apparently 121b (street name) but whenever i use address finders for comps etc, it comes up Flat B, 121 (street name) with the address i am meant to have, not found?! could putting in the first address cause me to lose out on comps? Should I just use flat b, 121 and hope anything I may be lucky enough to win arrives here?

Also, when it comes to letting you know if you have won...I have been stuck on dialup since the beginning of sept and as i work online its nearly always plugged in, meaning if anyone is trying to call say, I wont know. If you win a comp and they cant contact you by your landline, will they try other methods (mobile, email etc) or just move on to someone else?

Finally I set up a special email just for comps, but its with hotmail, can being with a free email affect your chances? Also is it worth ticking the boxes for subscribing to newsletters and so on when you dont really use that email address anyways?

I think thats enough for now, hope its okay to ask here :)

I would use the Royal Mail address finder at
    http://postcode.royalmail.com/portal/rm/addressfinder;jsessionid=1BSKNVNADDAJOFB2IGIUOSQ?catId=400145&pageId=pcaf_a_search&gear=postcode

just put in your number and postcode and it will tell you the official Royal Mail postal address

I would imagine that if a tel line is permanently engaged they will try and contact via email

may I suggest that you read the comping guide as many of the questions that new compers ask have already been posted in the guide
