NO, you've been a lot of help - thank you! I really appreciate it.
I've just looked around the website and there is a link to 'upgrade to pinsentry', but looking further into that it just seems to be a request for a card reader, which I've already got. Considering they tout this as being simple, I'm not impressed. I guess I'll just have to set up the standing orders in the branch.
Thanks for your help though - I do appreciate it.0 -
To be very honest. this pinsentry is easy to use. Trust me. it aint complicated at all.
Seems you are getting your knickers in twist over a simple jobbie0 -

Having gone through this with Novagirl, it appears when I click on 'next' I SHOULD get the screen you are talking about, with the correct boxes - but I'm not seeing that. I still get the old screen which asks for my 5 digit passcode and then 2 random letters from my memorable word.

I have given up now anyway! It doesn't appear that the system knows I have the pinsentry thing so I will just call into the branch next week and let them sort it out.0 -
If you've been an account holder for some time and try to set up a new one-off payment to someone, or DD, or SO then the system will say you now need to use PIN Sentry. The reader appears in the post about a week later. You will be allowed to log on and operate your account as you used to until you tell them you now have the reader. The system will bar you entry after a set period otherwise people would just continue using the old system (a month?). It appears that the log on screen is not showing you the 2 options, something along the lines of 'I now have my card reader' or 'I don't yet have my card reader' after using your log in details. If you select the former then you are required to use PIN Sentry from then on. It may be you won't need the reader till you try to set up a new payment again and will still be allowed to make payments to your already set up ones till you do, but this was not my experience (twice). Once you do get the proper PIN Sentry screen on you computer, you enter the last 4 digits of the 16 embossed on your VISA debit card in the top right hand box. Put your VISA debit card in the reader, press the 'IDENTIFY' top left hand button and the reader screen will then prompt you to enter your card PIN. This is not the same as the last 4 digits on your VISA card. You would have had it separately throught the post. Do so and press the green 'ENTER' button. Enter the 8 digits that then appear on the reader into the other two empty boxes on your computer screen.0

What I've found is that if I enter something incorrectly during the PINSentry log on session, the logon reverts to the old system until next logging on. I'm sure you've already done this, but just thought it might be worth mentioning, so if the old system is what's available to you, make sure you fully complete logging on that way, then log off fully. Then try logging on again to see if the PINSentry system becomes available to you now.0

OP, probably a long shot but what browser you using0

Using Safari (with a Mac).
I may have misunderstood but I got the impression one of the earlier posters was saying that I will only be allowed to continue using the old log in for about a month after receiving my pinsentry device. I hope this isn't true. I did actually receive a pinsentry thing maybe a year ago but didn't do anything with it. Nothing changed on the system and I was allowed to continue with the old log in.
It was just last week I mentioned to the branch that I wanted to set up a standing order and the girl asked if I had a pinsentry thing. I explained I had but didn't know where it was so she sent a new one.
I can't see anything on the log in screen that is asking if I have received the pinsentry thing.
To be honest I am not impressed. It may be wonderful for everyone else, but it just doesn't seem to be working for me. The bank will be open again tomorrow so I'll just get them to set up my standing orders for me. I should be able to amend them online just using the old system.
Thanks for the help.0
