Barclays Pin Sentry

Can anyone help with this please? The instructions are really vague. It says go to the website and log in, enter your online membership number. OK, done that. Then it says 'enter the last few digits of the card number on any of your Barclays debit cards as indicated, into the box on the screen'.
What box? There is no empty box for me to enter this number. I'm already registered for online banking so this should be a simple addition but it's just not clear to me.
Does anyone know how to use this please?

Do you have the Pinsentry machine? There should be a box that appears just to the right of where it says to enter the last 4 digits of the card.0

Machine? They've sent me a little gadget that looks like a calculator... there's a slot in the top for the card, and there is a display. Does it mean enter the number into the 'calculator' thing? I thought it meant enter it onto the website, it's not clear at all.
And what do they mean by 'enter the LAST FEW DIGITS'... that's a bit vague, isn't it?
EDIT: Thanks for that - I've put the card into the machine and it has suddenly sprung into life! I've got an 8 digit code on the calculator thing. What do I do with the code?
The instructions say 'type the 8 digit code shown on the card reader into the boxes on screen and click login button'. Does that mean the box on screen on the website? If so, which box? Which login button? Am I supposed to remove my membership number from the website and use that box, or what?0 -
Ok, pop the last 4 digits of your debit card into the top box on the screen on your computer.
Then, put that debit card into the top of the 'calculator'. Press IDENTIFY on the calculator thingy, and it will ask for your pin number. (the same number that you use for the ATM machines and in shops)
There will be an 8 digit code appear and then this goes in the 2 boxes and the bottom of the screen on your computer.
NB : maybe you're reading 4 as few as you're getting annoyed with it. Stick with it, you'll get used to it0 -
you push ypur debit card into the little gadget
the number you need to enter is the last 4 digits of your debit card number0 -

I'm not misreading it honestly - I have the instructions here - it definitely says last FEW digits!!!! Must be a misprint then!
However, I'm still not sure which boxes on screen I'm supposed to use. On the website log in page I have the box for my membership number, then no other boxes, so I have to click on next for the next page.
Then I have the box for my 5 digit passcode, and below that I have 2 boxes asking for random letters from my password. Nothing at all that looks suitable for this 4 digit number.0 -
Ah, it sounds like you aren't getting the log in screen for the Pinsentry as you would clearly see the boxes.
With Pinsentry you don't use the old 5 digit passcode and the random letters from the password.
Can you log in the old way, with the 5 digit passcode and letters still?
Might be worth a ring to the online banking team to help you out over the phone with it if that section isn't appearing on your screen.0 -
Yes I can still log in using the old details - I'm perfectly happy doing it that way. However, I am trying to set up a standing order online and it won't let me do that without the pinsentry thing.
I set up a standing order in the branch last week and when I mentioned to the cashier that I intended to amend the amount online each month she said I would have to be registered for pinsentry - and she said she would send me one (which is what I have received). I don't entirely believe that because (although I didn't complete it) I went through the process of amending an amount just to see if it would work.
Anyway, I have another standing order to set up so I thought I would do it online but it won't let me. Any idea what I need to do to get the right screen?
I don't want to ring the bank now because it's an 0845 number which means additional cost to me (landlines are inclusive in my phone package but not 08 numbers), also I believe the call centre is in India and they've not been very helpful in the past. If I can't figure this out I'll have to call into the branch next week (which rather defeats the object of online banking!!!!)0 -
I would probably try to call Barclays online banking, (sorry, hate to pass people onto customer services teams on the phone!) saw your edit now! Every Barclays branch has access to the online banking screen so can have a look for you
As they have arranged for Pinsentry to be on your account, I was always told that you would then need this when doing more complex things on your online banking.
On the first screen where you put your surname and membership number on, is there anything on there that says that you have received your pinsentry device?0 -
No, not that I can see. Under the membership number there are clickable links for
'If your details aren't shown, log in here', and then 3 more clickable links for business or personal customers who have forgotten their pinsentry card reader, or forgotten password.
I've just remembered I did amend the amount of a standing order a few days ago - using the old system. So that still works. For some reason it just won't let me set up a new standing order online.0 -
Silly computers! LOL
It's just a pity I'm not too up on the online banking system as it really is a great thing when you can get it to work in the first place. Hopefully someone else will come along that will remember how they got it to work in the first instance.
Sorry I haven't been much help0
