ps3 video questions

i have been converting video clips i have on the pc to mp4 so that they will work on my ps3 after being transfered to a usb flash drive stick. on some clips the picture runs slightly too fast and is ahead of the sound. is there anything that can be done? is it due to the settings within any video converter. what are the optimum settings that will also work on the ps3.
a second question is, is there no zoom function with blu ray movies?

I use HandBrake for converting mp4 videos. It has a PS3 preset.a second question is, is there no zoom function with blu ray movies?
Not as far as I know on the PS3.0 -
Sounds like a PAL/NTSC issue. I've seen it happen with american DVD players on UK TV's.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

marty j is right about both things.
you cant zoom on blu rays as their display is optimized already, the only changes you can make are through the screen ratio settings on your tv if you can, mine lets me but others i know dont and you just have to put up with the black bars.
much like if you play a dvd on the ps3, you can zoom and stuff no probs but as soon as you upscale the dvd to 720p or something you lose that abilityBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Definitely the way your encoding them. It really depends on what the original file is as no ONE program seems to work 100%:idea:0

i always thought the point of zoom was so you could look at something in the background closer. why should the picture being better remove the usefulness of this.0 -

on any video converter there are the following settings to be set.
video codec: x264, mpeg 4, xvid.
video size: from 160 by 112 to 1920 by 1080 and also original.
video bitrate: from 192 to 12000.
video framerate: from 8 to 30 or auto.
audio: aac, ac3 or mp3.
audio bitrate: 32 to 320.
sample rate: 8000 to 48000.
audio channel: 1 or 2.
a/v sync: basic or default.0 -
Your confusing the matter donna
Use HANDBRAKE as posted by Marty and use the PS3 settings and see how you get on
Personally i use XVID4PSP for most of my general converting (MKVs i use 2 others though):idea:0 -
just tried handbrake and the clips wouldnt play with any player on the pc and the ps3 didnt even see them coz they didnt appear when i clicked display all.
so i guess i am back to any video converter. if it is possible that having the wrong settings is what caused the speed up of the video then can someone tell me what the best settings are to have from those i posted?0 -
i think i may have discovered what the cause of my issue was. while converting a clip i noticed that the clip had a framerate of 30 but the setting was going to be 25. so perhaps converting it to 25 put it out of sync with the sound? so now whatever the framerate is originally i keep.0

Yes donna. You were trying to convert to work in a bluray format?
Keep whatever the original settings are and just convert to work as a PS3 (XVID4PSP works very well normally)
Upscaling to 1080P or whatever will just make it look worse than if your PS3 upscaled it so i REALLY wouldnt bother with that either (Not to mention a much larger filesize):idea:0
