Co-op Smart Saver!

I tried again after posting on this thread for a smart saver and was refused.
Rang Co-op to ask about appealing and was told to put it in writing, or I could try over the phone for an ISA.
Just logged onto my online banking and the ISA has been set up!
I'm a happy bunny now
I still dont understand why the coop won't let us have a savings account, we now have over 3 years of good banking history with them. You would think that if they are obliging enough to give BR's cashminder and ISA accounts then a savings account would be easy.
Don't be too overjoyed by getting your CASH ISA with them, it only pays 0.5% interest, probably the worst of the ISA's on the Market.
Following another members posting I have just opened an INTERNET SAVINGS account with the Yorkshire Building Society, I was accepted for it straight away, you can load it using your debit card or bank transfer and you can get a cash machine card to use in Link machines and it pays something like 2.8%. The welcome letter and cash card arrived within 2 days of opening, so top marks to YBS.Life is like a game of Snakes & Ladders, i almost made it to the top but now i'm at the bottom again and its a very long ladder to the top. I had it all and now its gone
Well my 6 years are now up, now to start to rebuild my life again

I'm not bothered about interest rates at all, I just wanted another account in my name where I can save money, so any interest is a bonus.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
What I would like to know from those of you who tried again is did you actually do exactly what Alistair advised and ask them to send to Appeals dept? That is what I did and I had the account in 5 days....Waiting for defaults to start self managed DMP0

I went BR today, and have both a Cashminder & Smartsaver. My previous accounts with Nationwide were similar, and I would use the 'savings' account to put aside money accounted for, like clothing, dentists etc..
After reading this thread I'm a bit worried now as I've got about £250 in the smartsaver. I hope I'm not going to lose it!!!
I did put down in section 13 of 6.28 about the two accounts being BR friendly, fingers crossed I'll update you on what happens...0 -
Hi
Not long after I went Bankrupt the COOP took my Smartsaver account away from me, left my Cashminder alone.
I went Bankrupt in 2010, i enquired in branch recently if I could re-open a Smartsaver they refused, does seem strange as i have two Cashminder Accounts now both in credit, so it seems a bit hit and miss like everything else during Bankruptcy. Like many others on here i opened two YBS internet account`s which are excellent.
Good Luck0 -
I found coop although great at the start. Are very reluctant to let you step upto anything including savings. After a few years, I'd recommend Barclays and building a history with them. They are less reluctant.
I think coop must have internal markers or bans on stepping up ex brs. My speculation only0 -
As I've said earlier, [unless Co-op have had a quantum U-turn in its policies towards Bankruptcy....which may be worrying?]...neither Co-op, nor the Insolvency Service, have any problems with a BR, or discharged BR, opening a savings account.
I get the feeling the inconsistencies that appear, stem from individual Customer Advisers at Co-op, what information they are given by the customer, and how aware the [potential] customer is concerning bank policies and their appeal processes.
With Co-op's systems, every application, regardless, is subjected to a credit check by the computer .
This is the stumbling block to successful applications.
And must be overcome manually by the Adviser.
Co-op have a specialised department who deal with things like bankruptcies, and it is they to whom the manual appeal goes.
Not quite as technologically advanced as the likes of Natwest, but hey ho, they don't just randomly leave you in the sh#te eitherNo, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
