Just wondered if anyone had managed to get one of these during BR or when discharged?

I went with Sainsburys cos I knew someone had success with them - will be interested to hear how others have done with the Co-op since they have been so good with everything else bankruptcy/post bankruptcy related.Get free advice before embarking on bankruptcy: CCCS 0800 138 1111 National Debtline 0808 808 4000

I had a smart saver that the co op closed after i went BK. I also had the basic account that they let me keep.
After 3 months they let me open a co op ISA account. This pays interest and has instant access.0 -
Hey all. Just noticed this thread, and I didnt realise I could have a savings account post BR or discharge as I am now by 7 months and still paying an IPO. Can I really have savings and no one demand it from me?
Would love to start saving a little for my grandchildren.0 -

if your on a IPA i would not have to much in saving as your OR might claim it as excess!!! it has been know to happen but if you can say it has been ear marked for bills that are paid p.a then the OR should understand,I would wait till you are off your IPA just to be safe, there is always under the mattress;)0 -
I have the Co-op cashminder account and applied for a savings account a week after discharge, all they would offer me was the Cash ISA.
I have a funny story about this
My application was refered and they took my mobile number to call me to let me know how it was going. I heard nothing by phone, then got a letter about 5 days later saying sorry but after careful consideration my application had been declined , HOWEVER when i looked at my account online that day there was an isa acount there with the £100 opening amount i said i would open it with, how confused was i, THEN next day i received another letter welcoming me to the Co-op isa with account number etc, letter asked me to check through the details and i noticed they had mixed the last 2 digits of my NI number up, it said to call straight away if any amendments required, i thought here we go when i call they will realise it shouldn't be opened but no such thing.
So 3 months down the line i still have my isa, just waiting for some department to realise their mistake during some audit and then getting the letter that they will be closing it, not that its really worth it at the moment as it only pays 0.5% interest , once i have cleaned my credit files up i will probably look at trying for a different savings account elsewhere, especially as i should end up with about 30k inheritence coming my way sometime this year :j.Life is like a game of Snakes & Ladders, i almost made it to the top but now i'm at the bottom again and its a very long ladder to the top. I had it all and now its gone
Well my 6 years are now up, now to start to rebuild my life again

EW, quite a few of us on here have Co-op ISA's while bankrupt but they won't give us a Smart Saver.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Right, better make sure my Smart Saver is empty when I go BR! Was hoping to keep it but I'll find some other way to save - box under the bed sounds good but better not tell anyone where I live!! :rotfl:BR 08/06/09 ED 10/03/10BSC member 2500

i cant understand why any bnk would decline a savings account after all there is no credit facility and therefore your not applying for credit!! along with everything else the govt need to do is to let the banks know that just because people are BR does not mean they can decline an account for saving i would say that is out and out discrimination and breaking the law as it is singling out a sector of people for no apparent reason. savings accounts are just that and are not credit and should not attract a credit check either:mad: makes meso angryself confessed 80's throwback:D
sealed pot challenge 2009 #488 (couldnt tell you how much so far as i cant open it to count it!! )0
