Can I use my 3 sim card in a non-3 phone-Nokia3410

Hi everyone,

Has anyone had any experience of using their network 3 sim card in a non-network 3 phone?

My phone has gone wrong again (A835) and I have sent it back to suppliers. I dont expect to see it again for ~ 1 month (the supplier seems to be on manyana time - chatterbox.com - really not good at all - I will not use them again).

However, I have a 3 sim card that im paying line rental for - but no network 3 phone to use it in. Can I use an unlocked nokia 3410 or an ericson T20 (cast your minds back a few years). I don't care about 3G - just want to be able to make and receive calls.

It will work (via o2) but only for a short time.

Each time you make a call the handset's id will be recorded by o2, and passed on to 3 by o2 when they ask for payment from 3.

3 will realise you are using a non 3 handset and kill the SIM.

Any replacement you then get will be fixed to only operate via the original 3 handset.

okay having just had a hell of a week with 3, same phone A835 replaced for a 'bare' A925

two options: buy a PAYG 3 phone and return it - hassle

or the obvious option, or it was when mentioned to me!! to late, is to set the divert function on the phone to another phone you have, okay you pay in minutes off your allowance but easy to do,

why send it back to chatterbox, (wish I'd used them cos of proximity) you can get 3 to pick up the phone (free) and return it to you on the third day (theory) they managed that once in 3 returns!! but certainly quicker than via a dealer who has to send them back anyway

Thank you LD and Smartass, appreciate your advice with all of this.

I have to eat my words - Chatterbox sent the phone back this weekend - within 3 days - and there was a bluetooth handset in the box!

The original phone box security seal was unsealed, so either Motorola were not supplying bluetooth handsets a month ago, or my original phone was a ex-return phone, or it the bluetooth attachment had been taken out.... choose which you wish.

Works great now! ;D
