Which provider should I choose?

Options
Hi,

my ex-partner moved out 3 months ago but his name was on phone/tv/internet package with virgin media. I contacted Virgin Media (who the account is still with) to inform them of this and they said it would be cheaper to leave the account in his name. This was because I would be classed as a new customer with none of the current benefits and a £20 admin charge to change names. So I left it as it was and continued to pay the bills.

4 weeks or so ago, my pc crashed and then I couldn't get onto our email account. So I contacted them to again explain the situation but they wouldn't speak to me as I am not the account holder. This is still the case.

So.....I am voting with my feet and going elsewhere!! Can anyone recommend which company are worth changing over to? I still want the same package (phone/tv/internet) but I'm not sure which company to choose.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've been looking today to try and reduce my phone/tv/broadband cost.

Originally with Virgin on "3 for £30" package but this and calls cost mean I spend an extra £15 each month on calls.

Looking on Sky website and found a useful tool to check packages and prices. I've manged to get an HD box, the "Variety" package (same channels as I watch now), HD subscription for a year, free broadand, free line rental and I've picked the Unlimited Sky Talk package. All for £31.25 per month for 12 months.

I've had to pay £49 for the HD box and I'll be paying £25 to BT to install a telephone line but with £50 in Marks and Spencer vouchers, I don't mind! I think I'll save around £155 over the year in spite of this.:j

Sorry but why is it Virgin's responsibility if your PC has crashed? This is not a broadband issue.
Surely if you are not the a/c holder then they are acting correctly in not discussing the a/c with you.
Unless you already have a BT line you don't have any other broadband options, all ADSL services require a BT landline. And no other providers can supply subscription TV services (unless you go for Sky).

  • Macman,

no I am not the account holder but I am still paying the bills!! I haven't said that it is Virgins responsibility, but while I am paying for a service as advised by them, I expect a service. This isn't being provided to me.

Ronnocs, thank you for your help, I will look into this.

    Thanks.

I understand you are actually paying, but contractually your ex remains the account holder (and remains liable for the payments too). They will talk to you about the account if your ex gives the authorisation to do so. Otherwise they are acting quite correctly in not discussing the a/c with you.
Had the situation been reversed, you would probably feel upset if they discussed your a/c with him/her without your consent. And, if you are not the recognised account holder, how are you going to terminate the account?
Can I suggest you post the email problem on the techie board where someone may be able to help you, it may be a simple problem with your email client and nothing to do with Virgin.
