when you reply STOP ALL as suggested in other threads here - are you charged at the premium rate of company concerned who is sending you unsolicited texts? received one today from a compnay i've never heard of - and they say if i reply it'll cost me £2.00. i don;t download ringtones or anything so have no idea how they found my number..
any advice much appreciated from you well-educated people

I wouldnt jump to replying - talk to your network provider first.

If its first message, then its likely to be bulk spam from some con artists - its a shame ofcom and likes dont button down on these activities which are nothing short of criminal.

Don;t reply with STOP - especially if you've never contacted them before. Take it up with your networks text abuse team. It makes it easier when they only see a chargeable inbound nunber from the service, rather than you interacting with it!

Well, I won't be complacent, nor ignore the scamming being perpetrated by these thieving companies.

When I rang and emailed T Mobile about the scammed charges on my PAYG, I must have stamped my feet/banged my fist, so to speak, very loudly and I was refunded the charges within the hour.

I've also since, received two more emails and two phone calls from T Mobile, saying they were sorry for 'my trouble' and that blocks have been put on premium rate texts being received by my phone.

Oh, and was there anything else they could do to help.

So my advice to anyone else being scammed...SCREAM & SHOUT VERY LOUDLY (well ok, very forcefully) at the mobile operator. Don't take 'It's up to you to get your money back' claptrap from the so called customer service call centre.

If you're with T Mobile or Tesco Mobile, there is a facility, when you log into your account, to enable the block premium rate texts being received.
