    It's looking like it's dead, google the model number, check the pata/sata type, and look for a cheap replacement, doesn't have to be the same capacity. Keep the old disk until you get everything working, sometimes they may have an adapter on the pins, which you will need.

    What is pata/sata? Where would it say on the hard drive which it is?

    pata is an older type of interface, if it doesn't say it on the sticker, google the model number
