Do you have to be wheat free or gluten free? If just wheat free, rye bread is nice and only about 99p for 6-8 slices. Sounds expensive but it's more filling than wheat bread, so works out ok. Unfortunately it's not gluten free. You'll find it in the sliced bread section in most supermarkets“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

I too am interested in this as my flat mate is trialling wheat free at the moment.
Going to have a good look at those links too as I was going to ask myself for hints, tips, recommendations and recipes as its very daunting looking at all the things that she needs to omit.Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000 -
If you have a bread maker I know there is a gluten free recipe in the recipe book for my Fastbake, you just use the GF flour, is expensive however.
If you google wheat free recipes there is loads of info, also try libraries for wheat free cook books. One day I might be more organised...........

hi, i have to say, I have been mostly disappointed with gluten free and wheat free breads, it can be a nightmare. my only hints
bake your own using wheat free bread mixes (sainsburys good for this, you can add seeds and stuff there too. it doesnt last very long, usually about 24 hours, but at first its as moist as normal bread and you can get a 'crispness'
tescos own make of 'free from' pasta is the best around. it always sellls out quick so I'd stock up. dont overcook as they go mushy
boots sometimes do pre-packed sandwiches on wheat free bread and they are good.
cafe nero do a gluten free brownie which is good!0 -
Have a look on https://www.coeliac.org, click on gluten-free living, then gluten free living and services and it will list some well known and not so well known brands. You can then search what suits your needs be it wheat free or gluten free.
It's an eye opener and I only started looking today myself on behalf of my flat mate as she is on a wheat free trial.
DiscoveryFoods has many lines in its tortilla, enchilada, quesadillas and wraps that are wheat or gluten free and provide a bread alternative.

we are gluten-free and here is some of the better (and cheaper) ideas we have found
Use rice noodles instead of spagetti
Rice cakes make a change from bread
Flaked rice from asian/oriental foodshops makes a great alternative to porrage. (tescos do it as well)
As for bread - if I can be bothered i make GF bread, if not I make a GF flour and water paste (just thicker than pancake mixture) and dry fry it, make a 'bread' similar to roti or a thick pancake. Lovely for dipping in humus or as a wrap, and it works out great. My boys love them in their pack lunches and always a handy fall back on. You can add herbs, pepper, a little cheese for a change in tasteIf you like lasagne, try rice squares from an asian/oriental foodshop, they look like 2" square lasagne sheets and work ok as an alternativeProud to be sorting my life out!

For more recipes have a look at waitrose.com, click on food and drink, click on recipes, in the search field put in gluten free or wheat free (whatever you are looking for) and there are some lovely ideas on there.
You can even create a recipe folder to keep the ones you like in for easy reference.

Hello all!
I have been diagnosed with IBS. I have cut wheat out of my diet & my tum has improved.
I have bought Doves Farms plain flour & bread flour. Also gluten free baking powder & xanthan gum.
I would like some cheap basic recipes please.
There is a bread recipe on the back of the bread packet so I will give that a try.
In my baking, could I just replace the plain flour for the doves farm stuff & where SR is required, how do I make SR with plain flour & baking powder.
Thanks!
Lisa0
