I ordered on of these for my mum and my order status is that the laptop is with the courier (UPS).
Does anyone know where these laptops are actually made and where do they ship from ? I know Dell are a American compnay so are they being shipped from the states ?.

I am on the verge of buying this laptop with the 15.4" widescreen, DVD RW, and 6 cell battery for £339. BUT... how likely is the 'new' offer that comes out tomorrow likely to be a better deal?! Obviously nobody can be sure, but what are the chances?

Can anyone that has already received one of these laptops comment on whether they look smart ... or do they very much look like a cheap basic laptop?

All we can say for sure is that this weeks offers are better than last week but three weeks ago was better than both when I managed to get 512RAM for £339. There has been some speculation that Dells year end is coming and its after the end of the tax year so there might be some better offers if demand tails off. I have noticed that people are quoting longer delivery times on this thread than a few weeks ago so maybe Dell have their demand back in line with supply if thats the case there will be less pressure on them to make offers to shift stock. In addition the 1300 is due for replacement so the timing of that may have an effect. In the longer term PC/Laptop prices will continue to drop relative to specification and Laptop production volume is now larger than desktop so its no longer the luxury item it once was.

None of which helps really does it! Whatever decision you make I hope it is the right one.

You probably need to change the warantee option to 90day collect and return which will reduce the price by £94 I think.

If you track it you will see it travels from Ireland(factory) -to Shannon- To Germany-to Stanstead-to Ups -to you.
Surprisingly quick delivery considering the length of journey.
    Its worth the wait though.

    Instructions are here

Click [Start] | All Programs | Dell Accessories | Dell OS Recovery CD

and you end up with a Standard Windows XP Operating System CD (bootable)

Once you've done this once the menu option to create the CD disappears.

    Found on another forum,
Dell gives you "Restore" CDs locked to a particular machine, that do not require activation, and a real CD that will.
