Proves that credit is individual and what works for one will not work for another. I am nearer 40 and have big mortgage and 2 mainstream gold cards plus full bank account, i.e. 5 live accounts and I can't get Virgin.

See my point..... well done by the way on having a Virgin (MBNA) card, MBNA must read these forums and see what I write and block my IP Addy LOL

lol!! well ive had my own share of problems with them, its about a list long! lol they will soon be banning me from every forum as well

The day i turned 18 i took out a credit card with virgin, who accepted me right away, no questions asked, they are doing really good balance transfer deals at the moment as well, what to do is, get a credit card, buy something each month, and set up a direct debit to pay that amount in full every single month, this way you are not paying any interest whats so ever and you are building a good credit rating and payment history
Well done. This is very unlike MBNA!
    Bank Accounts - Barlcays Premier[/B] - £1000 o/d, HSBC - £200 o/d- First Direct - £500
    Credit Cards - Barclaycard £2000 - Silver Card £1300 - Flybe £7500 - HSBC £1000 - First Direct £2500 First Direct Gold £3000
6 credit accounts closed in 2010!

Polite way of what I was trying to say - they are notoriously difficult to get accepted with - probs due to their great offers and cash advance facilities!

Noooo I mean that Virgin/MBNA see that I slag them off and ban my IP from any applications I make! Cos i'm against the old CCA's and they are a large culprit! haha - conspiracy theories now.....

Get a contract mobile phone, 3 seem to be good at dishing them out. Also try for a credit card. Good luck with your future credit building! Wish sites like this had been available when I was first starting out on the credit ladder. Would've saved me many costly mistkaes!
Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
    Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08
    ANOTHER 4 % June 09:beer:

Ok hi all, just some reporting back to do- I went in to Barclays today to open a current account and the computer decline me - but they said i could take out a cash card account instead which is very basic (not a problem for me, but what will this do to my credit rating?).
So now I am stuck with a basic account, will be applying for a 3 mobile contract when the card comes through and will also be putting on a direct debit for magazine subscription.
Hopefully, I will get somewhere with that. By the way, just another question- if I was to take out a tesco mobile sim only (its by direct debit) does that count as a mobile phone contract? sorry that might sound really silly but I don't have a clue.
Thanks all for your advice

    Hiya Nid!

Sorry I don't get what you mean by the visa debit card- is that supposed to be a good thing? I'm sorry I'm a bit slow with all this!

    Many thanks

Yes mate - the old card was electron which is like a 3rd degenerate card - it shows everyone you haven't got credit! However a Visa debit is much better for the old street cred LOL

Oh, and works in more places and online etc - well done. It is a start.

It is still what we call a Connect Electronic, as in it does not offer any cheque guarantee functions and shouldn't (in theory) allow you to spend money that you do not have.

You can still distinguish between a regular Connect Card and Connect Electronic as it does not bare any Cheque Guarantee stamp/hologram which a fully fledged Connect Card would.

Added to that, the Connect Electronic card is not a credit scored product. Anyone who has a Cash Card account can have one :) .
