Microwave or electric Steriliser?

Hello,

I am just trying to gather opinions on which you think is better and more MSE:

Sterilising baby bottles in an electric or microwave steriliser? :D

Thanks
Mad

    Hi madwoman,
The real MSE choice would be to fully breastfeed your baby - there are so many advantages to doing this. Have you considered it? There are lots of fantastic people on these boards who can tell you all you need to know.

    Hi

    I had an electric steriliser.
I heard of someone being scalded taking a microwave steriliser out of the microwave.
I'm not sure which is the most money saving though.

We used a microwave steriliser, it was very quick and easy to use. We were also really terrible parents as we heated up the bottles in the microwave too, obviously shaking and testing them.

When I started bottle feeding dd I bought a microwave steriliser- I ended up scalding myself so many times that in the end I bought an Advent Express electric steriliser. It was a godsend, so much easier than my microwave one.

I expecting again in 3 weeks and I've bought this Tommee Tippee electric steriliser. I know Asda have a baby sale on at the moment and are selling them for £10 (ish I think).

My microwave is in it's twilight years, so electric for us. I am planning on breast feeding but intend to express and store milk so need a steriliser.

I got that one mentioned above, but asda are selling them for £25 in my area. Plus, if you search the forum, there was a code for 25% off so got it for about £14 including delivery. Now that is MSE.

Call me greedy but i have both i always used a microwave one before as it was so quick and easy but went to the ex catolouge shop when i found out i was preggers and picked an avent electric steraliser up for just £8 only thing missing was the tweezer things you use for the teats so i thought i would give it a go. I think they both have their advantages/disadvantages the elctrical one will be great for the caravan though where asi cant use the microwave one there so always had to take a large icecream tub to fluid steralise before. ;-)

I breastfeed and still use a steriliser!! what do you do if you need to leave your baby for a while - sterilize a bottle for expressed milk or formula!

I've used a microwave one for all 3 children. i've had to replace it though as i have a microwave with an oven combination and on 2 occasions once by hubby we've turned on the oven with the steriliser in - it melted a bit:rotfl:I used an electric one too but preferred microwave one you only need to use it once a day and the electric ones take up too much space on the work surface.

I have used a cold water steriliser - the bottles are ready in fifteen minutes, you only need to make up one bottle at a time, you can use the water for as many bottles as you need in 24 hours, mine is still going after two and nearly a half years and there are no parts to go wrong.

Also, I really, really wanted to breast feed and I couldn't, so didn't make informed choice, but feel I fell lucky. Also recommend Lindam steam bottle warmer, again going for two and nearly a half years with carry case and ice pack. Has done sterling work with no complaints.

    Congratulations on your little one.
