If it were me, I would do the right thing and hand it in to the police. Got to do the right thing.

I can't believe you are even asking if you can spend it, it was obviously someone's gift. I would phone the store in question and tell them it has been found and ask if they would like you to post it to them or hand it in a store.

If I find anything that possibly could be traced back to the owner, then I would hand it in to the relevant authorities like a giftcard, either by contacting the store or the Police.

If I find a tenner on the floor blowing around on its own I would pick it up and its mine.

I have found 2 wallets before, one had been left on the roof of a car as the person refuelled at a "pay at pump" and it fell off at the roundabout. I didnt see what happened, just drove past and saw it being run over so went to the next roundabout and came back, it was still there so I picked it up. Was full of cash and credit cards and worryingly they had what appeared to be a 4 digit pin number written on the inside!

There was a driving licence so I dropped the wallet round and the old man was so grateful, the number was his pin number for all his cards! as he kept forgetting it!

The second one was down an alleyway on a nightout, again dropped it in at his work the next day ( He owns a bakers near us and had a business card in there ) He was'nt even aware he had lost it and was really grateful. I told him I had found it just round the corner from my house.

The next morning I opened the front door and found a flour bag with 2 freshly baked loaves. This continued twice a week for nearly a year!

So in my opinion if whatever you find has a way of easily being identified or is in a wallet/purse then I would hand it in as I know how I would feel having to cancel all cards etc.

But if its a tenner blowing around then its fair game, although with the lottery ticket I would have had to check the numbers, then hand it in.

Whilst I agree "Finders Keepers..." is wrong,

She said she was angry that Camelot would not pay out again. "I have a nervous condition and I'm an absolute wreck over this," she said. "I just hope Camelot see this and decide to do the decent thing."

Wreck over getting at least 15k, after accidentally losing the ticket, she should be happy she managed to get that back!

I lost my purse, had 90 quid topshop card voucher in it and my driving license. Driving license got returned, voucher never did.....!
