Found gift card

I found a gift card for an high street dept store. I was wandering if it will be ok to use it, i check balance on internet and has got £30 on it. On the back of it, the account no is shown and pin code is revealed.

Whats the take on this, any ideas. if found can they be used by the finder.

If the pin is revealed this means that it has been registered online, this is for security so if its lost it can be re-claimed, i suggest you hand it into the police as lost property and if nobody claims it in 3 months its yours, but keep yourself on the right track just incase you get yourself into a whole load of trouble, which might happen when the card is swiped it might flash up as inactive because its been registered stolen

but if on internet is showing valid balance this means the card is ok to use right. otherwise it would show invalid or not disclose it.

Sorry, but I'd have to treat this as if I found £30 cash lying in the street and hand it in to the police, I'd be thinking of the person who lost it and how they'd feel

I'd either notify the company who issued it or the police. The person who lost it will probably tell the company sooner or later once they realise they've dropped it. Just think how they would feel.

I think it's completely disgusting to even think of using it yourself. Sorry but there you go.

    spend it!

I'm sorry but most people who found cash on the floor would not hand it in and most people who lost cash/an untracable gift card would not go to police to attempt to retrace.

It means it's OK for the owner to use it. If you use it, that's theft. How would you like it? Have you no morals?

it is traceable though, if the pin has been revealed its been registered online, they have a way of tracing it. Take it from me i work in a shop, i deal with selling these gift cards every single day. I always advise my customers to register them online to avoid things like this happening, once they have realised its missing they will report that, it might show as having an active balance but i somehow don't think it will be authorised at point of sale, i am sticking with my original advice, handing it into the police, like i found someones engagement ring on the bus a couple weeks back it was beautiful but i handed it straight to the bus driver, because i know how id feel if i lost my engagement ring, wouldnt like to think someone had just found it and kept it for themselfs
