I bought a house - then it was taken away :(

Well, some 'interesting' replies!!
I was just upset and wanted to vent when I posted this, but it's obvious some people are very passionate about estate agents!!
I liked the post that thought I was comparing estate agents to child sex offenders! Very funny! Thanks for all the compassion folks!!
But, just to clarify - I wasn't annoyed that they accepted a higher offer. I was annoyed that they had told me they would be taking it off the market. It appears I misunderstood this to mean that they wouldn't accept any further offers.
But I still stand by the estate agents are scum (perhaps not up there on the child abusers level!) I had booked a viewing this afternoon on a property and the estate agent didn't turn up - I rang the office and said "Hello, I'm standing outside - where are you..." They said "Oh sorry, we've been trying to call you this afternoon" - no missed calls, no messages, nothing.
My view is commission is at the top of their list of priorities and customer service is not even on the list!!0 -
Here we go again another let's blame the EA.
Yes blame the EA. The EA promised the buyer that the house would be taken off the market. The EA agreed but the house wasn't taken off the market.
So the EA lied.
....and in another thread you were asking buyers to show good faith when asking for properties to be taken off the market!0 -
I read the situation as the higher offer came from a buyer who had viewed a while back, not that there were more viewings carried out. EAs are still legally obliged to pass the offer on, even if the property is "off the market"Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.0

There are a lot of estate agents on here it would seem. I concur that they are a useless middleman and will probably not be needed in the near future given internet technology and the power to mass market your own home to the same degree that any agent can.
I'd prefer just to get on the phone and hammer out a deal with the vendor, I think many would agree.0 -

It gets worse once you've had an offer accepted. Up until then you're someone they have to be nice to, after that you're just a waste of their time.0 -

Thanks for the compliment NOT.
At least me, and other agents, posts (some very long) are very much appreciated by enough users to make me feel it is worthwhile spending MY time doing it.

To repeat "here we go again let's blame the agent" and everybody else jump on the bandwagon. Think yourself lucky there are agents on this forum who help out time and time again. Are trying to upset them or would you exclude them from your comments?
You seem to be taking this rather personally. The comments were aimed at the EA in the original post.
I value honesty. I don't like being lied to and I don't like being misled. If someone promises to do something then I don't think it's unreasonable to expect them to keep their promise and if they can't keep their promise then they shouldn't make it.0 -

I have re-read your posts and feel I went in too harshly so you have my apology and I have deleted the post. I think??
Some of the venom in some posts is beyond belief and it does get tiresome when I read ALL agents when I feel it could read some or even many agents. As I often say buyers and sellers are equally capable of lies and deceipt.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. I asked the estate agent to take it off the market - no more viewings etc.
The estate agent isn't working for you, they're working for the vendors, why on earth do you think they would take instructions from you
