Cheapest Flights to Koh Samui (Samui/USM) - July/August 2009

Hi guys,
Summer holiday planning comes round again! Could I possibly pick all your collective brains please - where should I be looking to find the cheapest flight to Samui for Woody and I. Flying from London.
Travelling is 1Adult & 1Child. We are flexible as to when we leave as long as it is last week of July. We can even leave in early August. Want to stay for at least 2weeks but would do longer without problem, would like to be back in the UK by the 20th of August latest.
A few days stop over in Bangkok would not be a problem as we will be flying over during the trip anyway. Would it be cheaper flying to Bangkok and then getting Thai Airways flight?
Accomodation is sorted thankfully, at least in Koh Samui, still need to find somewhere to stay in Bangkok, Krabi and Phuket for a couple of days at a time! The sooner I can sort the flight out the better as I can then book our domestic flights for our island hopping.

Have a look at Kayak and Opodo for starters.0

There are no direct flights to Samui, from London. You will have have to get yourself to Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur and transfer to the islands from there.
£586 Direct flight to BKK with EVA. Direct flights to Samui with Bangkok Airways £55 one way. Indirect to Surat Thani £25 and onwards by bus and boat.0 -
Go with Bankgkok Air, around 2,300 baht per leg/each. Thai want double that. There's loads of availability for the end of July and August.

You guys are brilliant. I am most definitely taking it all onboard. I have heard it is easy enough getting accomodation once you get to Bangkok, is this true? With a child in tow, I don't want to take any risks you see!
Also, and please bear with me, would you advise me to just book this now circa £580 prices - these are good prices right??
More suggestions welcome from all!

500 pounds for return flights is about standard, july time is supposed to be rainy season so maybe flights would be cheaper tho its summer holidays so people still might travel (as the rains are only in some parts and dont last all day). I paid 390 with an agent called southall travel, cheapest i could find at the time, google them.
I flied to bangkok then got a train down south to the islands like phi phi etc, depending on where you want to go once in bangk there are so many organised tours you can sign up to. howveer with a child maybe its best to go get the plane, i travelled around domestically with airasia, again you can book once your there. Personally i found the islands and beaches overly touristy and have lost their natural appeal due to overcrowding, litter, westerners!0 -

How old is the aforementioned child? What were the individual costs of the airline ticket? Adult plus child.
As to Bangkok accommodation, what is your budget and requirement?
The New Siam 2 is a good starting point and is inexpensive at less than £17 per night.
If answer to you flight question, now is the time to take advantage of the advance purchase fares available on Bangkok Airways.
The EVA Airways flights are well priced for that time of year.0 -

Hi Donnie,
Thanks for the assistance. These are the ticket details. I am just in the process of booking it right now. It is for a 3wk stay.

Okay, the deed is done! Need to now work out the details. E.g how long to stay in Bangkok for before moving on to Koh Samui where we are spending the bulk of our time in Lamai, then off to Krabi (?), then Phuket and then back to Bangkok.
Thinking of doing the bus+boat from Bangkok to Koh Samui or am I mad? Will be checking out the New Siam 2 as mentioned.
So excited, can't quite believe I have just booked the tickets. My DD is non-plussed to tell the truth, typical 8.5yr old, just thinks none of it is a big deal lolDEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0 -
Donnie, just tried to book rooms at New Siam (good reviews on Trip Advisor) but can't more than 90days in advance, so will try again in a couple of days. It is 840Bhat for a double+air con which is great for my budget.
You don't happen to know suggestions of accomodation in Koh Samui do you?DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0
