Faulty SCS Sofa

We bought a corner sofa from SCS for about a £1,000 in January 07. Unfortunately, it's gone REALLY saggy in the middle both at the back where you lean against and underneath the cushions - to the point where we've had to put planks of wood under! Also, the seat cushions comprise of one long one two smaller ones. The one end of the seat cushion has just squashed down and gone flatter compared to the other end of it.
We complained to SCS. They sent someone to inspect it - the guy agreed it looked terrible. We've just had a letter from them saying "whilst we fully appreciate your concerns, we can confirm that there are no manufacturing faults with your furniture, as explained by the upholsterer". They've sent us a care guide leaflet which says stuff like "don't sit on the arms", etc. There is a cushion section which says rotate them so that they wear out evenly. The cushion that has worn down cannot be rotated due to the shape of it!
What can we do? That was a lot of money to pay for something that's not even lasted 18 months!

Sorry to hear about your experience. These are the ones who are now advertising sofas at £10 per month, aren't they? I did wonder about their quality when I saw the ad.
Have you contacted your local council Consumer Advice department?
On a practical note, if it's the cushions which have sagged (as opposed to the springs in the main body of the sofa), there are companies who sell foam cut to your requirements in shape etc so if the covers are removeable, replacing the pads might be an option.0 -
It's the cushions AND the main body of the sofa. You can see all the elastic strips under the paper thin material :-(
I will contact the consumer advice dept at the council - that's a good idea. Thanks.Getting older is inevitable, growing up is optional :rotfl:0 -
So in that case, rotating the cushions as per their care leaflet wouldn't have helped anyway. I think this a going to be a "fit for purpose" question. Hope you get some satisfaction via consumer advice.0

I would imagine that these are hollow fibre cushions and not foam and if so it should have been pointed out during the sale that they require daily maintenance to prolong there use, if this didn't happen then I think that you have grounds to complain. If they offer a replacement I would recommend foam filled cushions and a sofa with a fixed back, they may not look as inviting but will probably stay looking nicer and last longer. Good luck with your complaint !0

Have you seen the thread by Henry_Hoover in this forum? I think his sofa is only from January this year but you nay wish to read his experience. He also posts a link to the Consumer DIrect site.0
