Hi
When I was at the airport last year there werre notices saying something about not being allowed to take cheese dairy products and meat into other countries. I assume because of mad cow disease
We are self catering this year in Cyprus and I was going to take powdered milk and a bit of cheese with us when we go. Is it ok to do so?
Thanks for looking

Click on the following link from the Gatwick Airport website for full details:To help avoid delays, please prepare for security by reading the information on this page and in our downloadable security leaflet (PDF format).Food
You can carry fruit, vegetables and all solid foods in your hand baggage. However, foods in sauces or with a high liquid
content (such as sauces, pastes, soups and stews) need to go in the same transparent bag as any liquids, creams, gels and pastes.
The size of container must not exceed 100ml, regardless of the amount contained inside. Please note that jams, honey and
other preserves are also subject to these restrictions.0 -
Is it really necessary to take things like that with you? They do have shops in Cyprus you know!0

Powders are treated as liquids so must comply with 100ml rule or be in hold luggage.0

It's not mad cow disease, it's a permanent rule with some countries. The USA and Australia are particularly paranoid.
Anywhere in the EU is normally OK.0 -
The only time I carried powdered milk in hand luggage (many many years ago), my bag got thoroughly searched and the powder actually got tested to make sure I wasn't smuggling drugs :heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Besides powders being tested for drug content, custard powder and flour are not allowed because they're explosive. Strange but true.0

I think it depends on the country.
When we went to Mexico, they came round with bin bags just before descent for people to dispose of left over packed lunches etc., as you can't take certain foods into Mexico.
We went to a science fair a couple of months back and they ignited some custard powder. It did go off with a flash and a bangHere I go again on my own....0 -

Only liquids taken on board have to be 100ml or under and in a clear, resealable plastic bag.
For Europe you can usually take anything in food wise as long as you are travelling from another EU country. Other countries such as the USA and Australia are a little more strict.0 -
We are first flying into Toronto for four nights then flying to New York.
As coffee making facilities are not usually provided in their hotels, we would like to take coffee and'Coffee Mate' with us, is this permiited in hold luggage?Filiss0 -
