Surely that depends on just how "old" your "old-style" is? I mean, if you take it back to the days before (wo)man discovered how to harness and use fire...

I had a friend who lived with a 'raw-foodarian' as she refers to him. Whenever I visited he was preparing large bowls of food, disappearing off to munch while he worked and then coming back to prepare 'yet more'... Seemed like a lot of work to me. He was skinny though!:rotfl:Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I tried a raw food diet, it just took so much preparation, and i was constantly hungry, and i missed warm\hot food, maybe its easier in a warmer country. Or to introduce a raw diet gradually.0

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00jz1kq/Professor_Regans..._Diet_Clinic/Over a third of us are overweight and we spend 11 billion pounds a year trying to get thin. Professor Regan takes on the multi-million pound diet industry. Using herself as a guinea pig, she will discover what to eat to lose 10lbs a year, find a diet pill that actually works, investigate whether we should all be taking vitamins to supplement our diets, and uncover a low-fat product that can really be trusted.
Along the route to ultimate weight loss, she discovers that her body is 25 per cent fat, and takes on the diet pills you can buy on the high street by designing her own - with extraordinary results. Over 70 per cent of the study participants lose weight in just a month.
She also puts her taste buds to the ultimate test in one of the world's leading food labs, and chews her way through a mound of carrots. The raw carrot is billed as the ultimate health food, but in this rather unusual experiment with the world's first computerised stomach model, Professor Regan discovers the raw carrot is not all it is cracked up to be.
Worth a watch. Basically the view was that you should eat a balanced diet of raw/cooked and processed food.0 -
I'm really interested in this - I watched a documentary once which followed 3 or 4 people all eating nothing but raw food. I have to say that one of them was unhealthily obsessed with it, ordering special algae from utah for her salad (I'm sure that's taking it too far!) but I have to admit that they all looked absolutely amazing and really young for their ages. It inspired me to have a go at it, but then it was soooo much effort my heart wasn't in it.0

There was a program on channel 4 last night all about people on the raw diet. You should be able to catch it on 4 on demand. I found it quite interesting, but as usual they seem to show the extreme followers to make it more contraversial.Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance....0

I remember this program (health food junkies) from the first time it was on; over a year or so ago :rotfl:. Just so you know that guy you see doing the seminar (sp?) is from "TheRawFoodWorld" that I mentioned in my last post on here. I have to say watching that programe again made me remember why I love eating mostly raw foodsThere was a program on channel 4 last night all about people on the raw diet. I do agree that as always with something that isn't considered the 'norm' that they found some of the more extreme people in a way. I'm not very keen on the idea of a urine cleans (sp?) personally  (I didn't understand it last time I watched it either). I also personally think that bee pollen is an animal product so as a vegan I would never eat it even if I was to go fully raw (the vegan society also sees it as an animal product so it isn't a personal thought really).
I do agree about the water being so polluted however as it's impossible even with the normal filtering process the water goes through to remove all of these. Only problem with using additional filtering systems is the removal of calcium and other minerals that are naturally in water .I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy

I tried it some years ago and lost weight (didn't want to, couldn't get enough calories!). there's also an awful lot of chewing goes on (ended up with a very tense jaw). I did feel more energetic initially but I've heard that people start off feeling better in the short term and then are worse than they were on a normal diet. It would be good to have someone doing a proper scientific trial! good luck, be careful!0

Hi all,
I was very surprised to see this thread on the front page!
Since I last posted on the thread, I've been eating about 80% raw food, but always have a cooked meal once a day. I've lost 3" off my waist (and I did need it!) and have dropped a dress size. My skin is clearer and I do have more energy.
However, I am being careful regarding all the health claims and 'special' ingredients you MUST buy to get the best health. The way I see it - a balanced, home made wholefood diet has served humans well for centuries, so why change it? I must say though, that my raw cheesecakes and banana pies are a favourite of the whole family and all our friends!
Also, I'm not obsessed with eating raw - we've recently had some setbacks at home and I fell off the wagon so to speak. Just getting back into it now and I do feel better for it, but am aware that all good things can possibly have bad side effects too.
Finally (and please don't lynch me!), I'm not vegan, I'm not even vegetarian. I drink raw milk, make kefir with it and use raw butter. I eat marinaded herrings (am Danish), and will eat steak tatare. A lot of the time when I'm eating more raw food I am mainly vegan, but that's more accident than design.
If anyone wants anymore info, please don't hesitate to contact me.
