Just to second the previous posters, the cheapest time to go to Australia is Mid April - end June. Each year, there is always sales for this period, and this year it got down as low as £490 ish.
But you will not get these fares for February, they will be higher. Even so, I'd still wait, it's a long way away, and you never know, they might release a good sale fare in September/October....

Just wanted to thank those who suggested I wait - jumped on the current Singapore Air deal and got two return flights to Sydney in February for £800!! Amazing!! I'm soooo excited now, how am I going to keep this a secret!!
