Good morning: Ikea....many fans on here (and just as many detractors;)). We've had 4 in total (different properties, not a reflection on durability).

I'm going to buy an Ikea kitchen, cheap, sturdy, many choices of style and interior fittings and fixtures, 25 year guarentee and interest free for 12 months if you spend £1500 (24 months if over £3000).

Also the Ikea kitchen planner tool is pretty handy!

Chiming in on IKEA. Very easy to put together and hang - we did all of ours ourselves.

Hi Bryan, We do Mereway kitchens (the manufacturer for John Lewis own brand kitchens). Mereway are generally known to be the best mass produced kitchen manufacturer in the industry and still independent and family run. Mereway kitchens are supplied as rigid carcase units which are glued and dowelled construction - much stronger and superior to 'flat pack' systems. The Oakwood door from Mereway is a solid Oak Shaker style door and at the moment we can sell this at a very good price. Good luck.

I got mine from Howden's due to the whole of the trade discount that was passed onto me by my builder/installer (friend of a relative).

Originally I was going to go for a Mereway kitchen as mentioned by CK, but it was only getting the Howden's discount that pursuaded me to go with Howden's. I knew from the start I definitely wanted a rigid kitchen, not flat packed.

Definitely consider the Mereway kitchens as they do some attractive ranges & the quality seems very good. Have a look at Howden's too, nice sturdy cabinets & a decent range.

Whatever you do, shop around for your appliances as you can pick them up far cheaper by buying them elsewhere & not from the kitchen company.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I'm having my new Wickes kitchen fitted right now.
It's the Shaftesbury one, solid timber units.

I'm no DIYer so it's a wickes recommended fitter that is doing it and he gets an electrician and plumber to do those things.

I'm really excited to see what the finished product will look like.

I found the Wickes measurers and designer very good and they were fine even though i went back 3 times to make some alterations to the design.

I think i got a pretty good price too, so i'd recommend them

Hi Cattie, Sorry just to be clear that the Howdens trade discounted price is really only the retail price so you might think that the Howdens kitchen was cheaper for you to buy rather than the Mereway but Howdens really is cheaper. Forgive me if I am wrong but I also thought Howdens supply flat pack kitchens but as an option they will pre assemble the units before delivery, for a charge ofcourse.

It also really depends on where you decide to purchase the kitchen as to their prices on appliances. We supply Neff, Siemens and Miele appliances and we sell these cheaper and sometimes much cheaper than any internet company so none of our customers ever source their appliances elsewhere.

It just depends which kitchen company you chose, whether a national or a local family business like ours.

Sorry if this sounds a bit like an advert, I just want to champion similar independent family kitchen companies like ourselves. :D

All of howdens units come pre-made, they are assembled in there 4 uk factories and shipped round the uk. Glued and dowelled carcasses with solid backs, Prices depend on the volume you buy but for the price and with the large stocks they hold they cant really be beaten

There flat pack tecknik range is available but the price difference is very little

We bought our kitchen from Wickes last year. I love my kitchen so much and even a year later, it still gives me great pleasure. The quality is superb and looks wonderful. It cost in the region of £2,000 after various discounts but that included washing machine, fridge/freezer, oven, hob & extractor fan plus my lovely ROK sink. Think it was worth every penny. Plus our kitchen planner at Wickes was superb.
