I have been with Tiscali for over 4 years and had all the 3 products - Phone, TV and Broadband and never had any issues with them. Customer service has been good and they are the cheapest on the market if you want all 3.

Now, I am worried about TalkTalk as I have heard its not that great. I am up for renewal this month. Any suggestions on whether I should renew with Tiscali or move to another provider?

Call me cynical but Tiscali continued to bill 3 people I know for many months after they had cancelled their contract.

They did it to my parents despite confirming on numerous occassions the contract had finally been cancelled and that a refund was on its way. Whole thing took the best part of 4 months to clear up.

I have now found out that as I have TV and Broadband with them, they cannot upgrade me as I am on the "highest platform possible" - If I am on the highest platform, then how come I don't feel tall or welcome!!

Its time to move, but wish there was some supplier who are as cheap as they are.

  • Having used Tiscali very happily for years, and having heard bad things about TalkTalk, I was dismayed at the prospect of the take-over. My fears have been fully justified, as TalkTalk are now increasing my monthly fee from £14.99 to £18.48. They say that it's to bring me in line with their other customers, and try to justify it further by saying that they will increase my speed to 8MBs and give me free evening and weekend calls. Now the free calls are of little use to me, and Tiscali wrote over a year ago to say they were increasing the speed to 8MBs. Somebody has been telling porkies. I wonder who?

All it really amounts to is a 23% price increase.
  • Thanks to the price increase - even if you are still in a contractual term/minimum period this is a change which brings you material disadvantage, so if you want to you can shop around, request your MAC code and move on to another supplier. You are under no obligation to continue with them.

Most ADSL is "up to 8Mbps" - fixed ADSL speeds are a rarity these days, and most migrations to the "ADSL Max" product happened a while back. There is no so such thing as "8Mbps ADSL" - only "up to 8Mbps" which means you are unlikely to see any change unless you were previously on a fixed speed service.
