Another thing to do with oranges - I can't quite rememebr what they are called though, I used to make them at school. Cringles???
Anyway, take an orange and stud it all over with cloves. then tie a piece of bright ribbon around it.
These smell yummy and can sit on tables etc (be careful of marks on wood though).
For added glamour ;D, push a small cake candle into the top. Makes a nice table decoration, which children can make.
HTH
I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this responser.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!

Somewhere around here I have instructions for making garlands out of brightly coloured carrier bags! Shall I hook them out and type them up? Anyone interested in this? Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Yes please
You can make some quite proffessional looking garlands using crepe paper.Make lots of little fans by folding equal sized pieces concertina style, staple at bottom edge to hold, then staple together at the edges alternating up and down, then expand.2 colours alternated look very effective.
We made nativity animals out of fimo .If you buy a big block of white ,it lasts years (wrap it up) and just paint your models when you have baked them.0 -
            Festoons from Carrier Bags!
Works best with the christmas colours e.g. Holland and Barratt, M & S (are their bags still red?) BHS etc
Cut down the sides of the carrier bag opening it out into a long strip. Leave the handles on for hanging.
Fold the bag into a strip about 4" (10cm) wide (the more folds the deeper the festoon). Make sure the fold and the edges are together. Hold in place with paper clips/clothes pegs.
Make cuts to within about 1/2"/1cm of opposite side - about 1"/2.5cm between cuts and turn the strip over and cut between the first strip up to 1/2"/1cm at the other side.
Carefully open out and you have a long festoon.
Article says that it can be made with tissue paper but I've not tried that! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

            Good idea!
Ive done this with the kids using kids craft paper like you sometimes get in poundland but Ive never thought of doing it with coloured carriers.
One year we were so skint we made all our decorations from that blank newspaper (hubby had salvaged from the bin at work) all the decorations were white and we had a white tree. It looked lovely!
Quality street hung all over the tree with green or red wool looks nice too and saves buying special tree sweets.0 -
            thanks, love the carrier idea.0
