You can means test yourself for benefit using online calculators. If you have three people to support on a salary of 25,000 per annum I'd have thought you would be absolutely entitled to benefit. The system is put in place to help everyone on low incomes not just people on benefit. 25k might sound a lot to you on your own but like I said you haven't really given any circumstances or where you live. I was single and on 25k a year I'd get zero benefits. If I was just with my partner and we had no child then I'd likewise get no benefits. My LHA rate is based on a two bedroom flat and not a single bedroom as I have a child which is entitled to it's own room.

If Housing Benefit was just in place for people on Benefits then there would be no incentive for people to find work as they would be "better off on benefits".

There isnt any incentive for anyone who is older than 25 and single to work though,
as they will earn more on benefits for having a holiday life,
unless they get a job that pays over £9 per hour (due to having to pay 2 taxes then).

And if you go on the job centre websute or most other jobsearch sites you will struggle to find many jobs paying over £9 p/h.

There are tax credits available to people working low incomes and as I stated if you're on a low income you can get a portion of your rent paid by your local council to help offset the balance. People are always better off benefits than on. The only reasons someone would claim to be "better on benefits" is if they would rather do nothing than work as the extra £100 a week wasn't "worth it" to work. These kinds of people are not likely to change their minds any time soon.

The person who i ha changed to being the 1 who would move in with me already does have a baby,
although she said she would have left it with her mum anyways cos a kid wouldn't really have much fun at my flat.

Although currently i haven't needed to start claiming HB again yet since my job has sorta kept on going.

But im ust curious that if you can get benefits when your on 25k per year just cos you have a family,
who actually isnt on benefits?? lol

Is it just me or does this make no sense?
    Gone ... or have I?

This is 1 of the very few things which i have to comfort me and stop me feeling depressed about having to get old atleast though... :)

Because as soon as i reach 25 all the fear and stress and worry of 'having to earn to survive' will go away. :)

    I'm 21 though....

Seriously I have no idea who told you about benefits and entitlement but you seem to have absolutely no grasp of them whatsoever. I think you're symptomatic of the kind of person who thinks people on benefits are all "scroungers" and "too lazy to work". Shame.

How do you get such high benefits rates if you are only 21??:huh:
When ive looked anyone whos under 25 gets barely half the housing benefit amount that a 25 or over will get,

And i dont think people who claim benefits are ''scroungers'', i myself have needed to get benefits for abit.

Although i do think that there should be big changes in the layout of the proportions various people are able to get,
just because they have got themself into situations that they aren't yet capable of handling yet.

e.g People seem get a HUGE amount more just because they have kids,
although theres absolutely no policies that look into ''why the person believed that they would be able to support a family at that stage in their life''.

I think its fair that if a person was at a stage of their life when they were earning enough to support themself/their partner and to be able to support a child so they had one,
but then they went on to be made redundant and so lost that income...

Then i totally agree that they should be able to get benefits to help them till they get another job. (those benefits should end once they have a job though, even if its alot lower pay, they will just have to learn to budget severely).

However i dont think that someone who isnt earning anything/isnt earning enough to be able to support a baby and family,
but still decides to go and have one anyways regardless,
should then be able to get taxpayers money to fund them.

Since it would then be a careless and reckless act for them to have gone ahead into that situation when they knew full well that they werent ready to handle it yet.
  • Angel, I don't understand why you feel you are getting such a raw deal.

You earn more money then anyone I know as most of the jobs where I live only pay around £15000 (unskilled obviously).

You pay no more rent then people around here either (The Midlands).

You are an adult, you have chosen to rent your own flat of which you claim you can not afford.

Why did you move out of home if you couldn't afford it? Maybe you could of shared somewhere with a friend (one that was also working) in order to keep your outgoings lower.

There really is no point in comparing yourself to other people as everyone is different & has different circumstances.

The OP needs more money than you as he has a family to support so will higher outgoings, children are not cheap to raise.
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

Age has very little to do with benefits once you're a legal adult so I don't know who fed you the line about that.

With regards to being in a situation to raise a child before having one...Sounds like more right wing nonsense to me. Me and my long term partner had an unplanned pregnancy and are now building our futures accordingly. I have a bright future in my industry and she hers.

We pay plenty of tax into the system, more than you given our salaries, and once she returns to work when our child reaches an age where she feels comfortable doing so we will have no need of any support. I will happily claim any kind of benefit that is available to me because these are the systems that my taxes pay for. I think the benefit system is a fantastic boon for this country and long may it continue to support those in need of it no matter how they get into their situation.

You and your partner clearly wernt and aren't in any position to be able to raise a family yet since you are depending on handouts of money from others to fund your family lifestyle.

This is why i fully understand and support people who dont see any value in them paying their money in tax just for the government to hand it out to irresponisble people.
